IMHO, Kim was the nastiest submarine pitcher of our generation. I mean, his arm angle was truly submarine, with his knuckles practically scraping the dirt. Also, I’ve never seen another submarine pitcher throw as hard as he did…in his prime, his fastball sat in the low to mid 90s. Slider was filthy too.

He switched to a higher arm slot because he preferred being prepared for plays if you look at his pitching form now when he goes on tv shows he has a lower arm slot where his arm is nearly perpendicular to the ground.

FYI. Kim was pretty interesting player. I believe he was the shortest height pitcher by that time in mlb. His profile says 5'10" but he is probably aboit 5'8". He was pretty dominant in minor leagues right after he came to us baseball league, and he stayed in minor teams for very short time and called up to mlb. His fastball was close to 95~96 miles and specially his slider was top notch in that era. His biggest mistake was he didn't wanted to play as bullpen and wanted a starter pitcher which is pretty risky for him and he ended up to be a starter and he was pretty decent til he got injured by broken bat.

Kim didn’t play in the kbo before he came to America, unlike other players his first professional team was in the mlb which is crazy when considering how old he was. BK sadly didn’t pull satisfactory stats when he pitches other professional leagues due to his age and constant injuries.

Fun fact: BK graduated from Gwangju Jeil High School in Korea. Two of his teammates at the time, Hee Seop Choi and Jae Weong Seo, also came to the Majors. Three major leaguers in a high school team in Korea 😳

As a Korean and a Arizona Native, I have mixed emotions about Kim. I witnessed his perfect inning and his botches in the World Series. He always pitched great with that awesome kick after. I admired him as an athlete, but he almost ruined one of Arizona’s only championships.

I firmly believe that no person could have shut out the Yankees in games 4 and 5. With 9/11 going on, Yankees clutchness, the ghost of the game, the Yankees had to win those games like that. It was inescapable fate.
