I bet they can see that extra bit of hand fidgeting on the changeup as well. Hell I could notice stuff like that when I was playing 500 with my friends at the park on Saturday mornings. I could never see the spin soon enough to identify a pitch though, and none of us were throwing heat like these guys. What these hitters do against this kind of pitching is simply amazing. Especially going opposite field on a nasty changeup like that!

The way I see it, from my time playing ball as a lefty batter: righty batters would be able to see a righty pitcher's elbow elevated for changeups vs not for fastballs. Lefties wouldn't be able to see the elbow from their angle, but might be able to better see the glove angle changing instead.

He is getting handsy when setting up the change up. Hitters can see when a pitcher uses one or both hands to set up a pitch. From the hitters perspective. You can see the see the ligaments running down the back of the pitchers hand/forearm rippling and an indent appear/disappear in the back of their wrist when they use their gloved hand to help rotate the ball. This is one of the reasons a lot of pitchers always wear long sleeves. To make this harder to spot. Problem is that when it’s a fastball he is locking his wrist and pressing into his glove using only his throwing hand to position the ball. His glove hand is going to stay flexed the whole time instead of flexing and relaxing. You see him using his gloved hand during setup, change up. Not using his gloved hand during setup, fastball.

Man I literally just said on the last one that it was one of his all-time greats, and he goes and drops this masterpiece. That slo-mo "LET'S FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOOO" was worthy of the chef's kiss you did a second before. Magnificent. And what a MOMENT! Also watching that Jolly group celebration warmed my heart. I am completely ambivalent about the Mets, and I was pumped along with y'all.

Not the first time the Mets have picked up on pitchers tipping. They got Nola for 6 runs in an inning in September as well. But still, that 3-1 pitch to Alonso was a terrible pitch, same location as the first pitch of that at bat.

GREAT COMMENTARY...All through my baseball "career", I watched the pitcher warming up and shared the info with the team as a player, and then as a manager. At the major league level, they camouflage their pitches very well, and I missed the 2 points you made. Watching that at bat; you nailed it! WTF is an MLB pitching coach doing for his paycheck if he didn't see that. The overlay that you did is not rocket science and he should be fired for missing that. You can tell that Pete KNEW IT WAS COMING! He sat back and waited for it to come to him...

Man, they were all over those pitches. I’d think Gary’s got to see how they were hunting those pitches and spitting on everything out of the zone and realize something was up. Williams has too good of stuff for several batters in a row to see everything coming out of his hand so clearly. Just as the Mets’ staff picked up on Williams’ tips, someone in the Milwaukee dugout has to pick up when something is off. Brutal way to go, but you love to see it. Cheers to the Mets from St. Lou

It's true he was tipping, but it wasn't as straight-forward as it's made out to be. Perfect example is the 1-1 FB to Lindor. If he knows it's a FB coming, there's no shot at him being late when it's right down the middle.

Tuned into the last three innings of this game after I saw it was somehow scoreless still. When it was 2-0 Brewers and they had 2nd and 3rd two outs, I was like "Edwin Diaz has to get this out here or it's game over." He got the out. 9th inning, I was like "Lindor has to at least get on base", and he does. Then, "If Pete Alonso homers here, the Mets need to pay him every dollar he wants", and he goes and does that. These Mets are just magical, man. Giving the same vibes as `69 and `86 here.

Devin Williams was missing the Strike Zone with His Fastball so Sitting on the Change-Up would be the Smart Move for the METS Batters that Inning. I think the Pressure and Nerves of that Inning May have caused Williams to exaggerate His Glove movements. We need to see Williams’s 9th-Inning Glove movements from Wednesday’s Playoff Game against the METS to Compare.

Alonso is a smart hitter I don’t think he didn’t really care about Williams tipping pitches He knew it was change or fastball He was waiting for something in or close to the zone And that pitch was like a gift knowing his opposite field power

Your pitch tip theory based on the glove is a reach. The Mets batters were on Williams location. Fastballs were up today. The changeup would stay belt level and sometimes dive down. That's the book on Devin Williams. Key to those ABs were location and where the ball would track. There' s an interesting graph on Williams pitch location based on his velocity and I think that's what the Mets scouting reports had on him. Just my theory.... With all that said, fun video as usual.

@@dmil843 It's not really a theory when you can legitimately see the difference in his glove position. Williams was definitely tipping pitches, but whether or not the Mets saw that is up for debate for sure.
