Absolutely fantastic Joe. Made it out there in the fall when she made her last Fall Foliage run. 2102 is a monster, but she holds a spot above the T-1 with me. On a side note, I had inquired about a possible cab ride and got nowhere with it. Guess I’ll just have to try harder next time, lol. My condolences with you and your family. Keep on keepin’ on! 🤟

I’ve already made a comment down here, but I might as well make another. There have been some rumors going around that this overhaul may only take 6 to 12 months instead of something like a couple years. I found out that in mid 2022, 425 got her smokestack and some other parts replaced. This means they have a head start, since parts like that don’t seem to wear out all too fast. So, it’s possible we may see her running again by late this summer. Even if we don’t, I can keep watching this over and over again until it’s done, as it represents all the glory of the 425 anybody needs.

@@SuperFoxyRailwayProduction6702 yeah, any of those estimates could be true! It all depends on what they find - that and the fact they’re also going to be keeping 2102 up and running now as well. @-_Spiral_- Жыл бұрын
@@fuscoproductions I’m not sure if I’ll get a response, but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to try and ask. Do you know how long these types of overhauls usually take, if the locomotive doesn’t have any obvious problems, of course? Some say it can take 6 months, 2 years, 4 years, even 15 years. But, I’m not sure if any of those are right. For 425, I don’t think it would take 15 years, but maybe I’m not thinking right.
@fuscoproductions Жыл бұрын
@@-_Spiral_- it is impossible to predict an exact timeline, but I know it is being worked on! It depends on the manpower and money. The R&N has a lot on their hands now with their regular freight operations plus the 2102 that requires a lot of upkeep as well. For perspective, 425 went out of service in 1996 and didn’t run again until 2007. While it sat dormant most of that time, the actual “1472” probably took about 2 years. 425 went down again in 2011 and 2012 when it received some more work, and came back in 2013 and ran through 2022. So a couple of years seems to be a reasonable timeframe to expect a reasonable amount of work to be done. But once again, it is not possible to predict exactly how long it will take as you discover more problems as you go. The R&N has a talented group of people to do the work. The engine is in good hands.

That is one heck of an AMAZING video Joe! This was the cherry on the top for 425's last excursion service. At around 10:00, how'd you get that "zoom out" effect so smooth? Did you use it in-post or did you just ever so slowly move the zoom ring on the lens? Also, what microphone do you use? Is it a stereo or mono mic? I'm so sorry to what happened to your dad. You're in my prayers 🙏.
@fuscoproductions Жыл бұрын
Hey Aaron, thanks for the kind words! It’s an optical zoom, there is some minor stabilization but I was very careful to turn the zoom ring as smoothly as I could on my 24-105 f4L. I’m using a Zoom H5 for audio, dual system sound synchronized in post. It is stereo. Really glad you liked it! More to come. I still have a good bit of footage of the 425 and now the 2102 I haven’t touched yet! Stay tuned. :-)

@@fuscoproductions received and understood. The audio needs to be picked out as amazing in its own right too! I assume some specific gain settings to filter out some of the 'noise' in the scenes?
@fuscoproductions2 жыл бұрын
@@spacemarine88 glad you liked the audio as well. I try to make audio a priority in all my videos - nothing really fancy going on there though - just a high quality recording to begin with via a Zoom H5, synchronized in post. Once again, careful effort was taken to ensure the audio doesn’t “clip,” while still being loud enough to convey the sounds and atmosphere of the locomotive. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen 425 in person but it is exceptionally loud.
