Follow along with Western Maryland Scenic Railroad's steam locomotive #734, better known as "Mountain Thunder", as it climbs up grades as steep as 3% on the journey from Cumberland to Frostburg, Maryland.
*WHISTLE IS ILLINOIS CENTRAL 3-CHIME.

WOW! There are train videos, and then there is this! Watching it, no lie, you'd think you were watching a PBS documentary or something like that. Flawless edits, superb camerawork, great angles, crisp and sharp images, and it tells a story without anyone having to say a word. Possibly one of the greatest train videos I have ever seen. And all in 6 minutes!!

@@fuscoproductions they are making some rather large locomotives for the program and I was thinking this might fit the 2-6-6-2 they have on the tech tree. Railroads online is the program itself its a PC game and I noticed they seem to be having trouble sourcing good whistles that are not baldwin single chimes. Mark Huber is the one putting all the audio together and he said he needed written permission from the source audio's creator to use the audio in the game. The Game is also fairly new having just launched last octobor. So do we have your permission to use this?

It's amazing that neither of the steam locomotives on the Western Maryland are actually vintage WM locokotives. 1305 worked for the C&O and 734 worked somewhere in around Chicago I think but was purchased by the WM and restored/altered to look like a legit WM consolidation.

3:34 Something about this scene and image that brings out the kid in me and I wonder if it did for others, there is almost a mystical aura to it and a peek into the past. It is so amazing and nostalgic seeing the glow of the fire and the crewman peering through the butterfly doors while that is the only light in the cab as they pass through a tunnel with the engine barking off the walls.

That whistle fit 734 to a "tee". Not a sleek high-wheeled beauty like Jack Showalter's 1238, 734 is a mountain lugger built for heavy service. We used to say it would be great to fit the old Kelly tire plant whistle to 734. That whistle was part of daily life to thousands in Cumberland for over 50 years. You can hear the rods knocking on the engine at 5:00-5:08. Must be due for an overhaul. Somebody find the old Kelly Springfield whistle and put it on there!
