Helpful demonstration! I just recently bought one, since I was always curious about having that JoMoX kick in my toolbox, hehe. I mean, editing is pretty straight forward, BUT... as you mentionend, its a tad tedious with these two knobs and I immediately thought about putting a controller map together in TouchOSC for iPad. Another thing that confused me was that when you're not quick enough during the store-routine, the MBase _recalls_ that preset instead of writing what you dialled in into that slot. Really annoying since what you did is basically gone. Maybe I did use it wrong, dunno. What I like is that the MBase jumps to the specific parameter when you change its value from the external controller. I just found your channel after looking for Kick Lancet videos around here. I did not eben know that the Kick Lancet existed some minutes ago, hehe. Kinda like the East German version. And they're reasonable priced, so I'll get that too I guess. Being East German, that seems like a mandatory thing, hehe. And why not have both? I am looking to expand my kick drum palette, with these specialists joining my 808 and 909. So mimicking these classics is not what I expect from both the MBase and Kick Lancet. Thanks for these helpful videos! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🧡🧡🧡🧡💛💛💛💛🤍🤍🤍🤍 .

@@audioreakt I am scared to go modular, cause it is a money-pit.. but if i go i will go with EricaSynths stuff. Their "Bassdrum" module is killer, too. // PS: You can make great kicks with virtually any semi-modular synth. Just needs a triangle OSC and 2 envelope generators. One for VCA, as per default, and the other for PITCH to tweak the attack phase.. The Minibrute has a secondary AD envelope, i think. Short decay for the pitch and it should be perfect. :)

MBase 11 is a great machine, but it needs heavy compression to get the Amplitude Envelope right. I use a combination of SPL Transient Designer and FMR Audio RNC 1773 which make it a super expensive analog kick. If only Jomox could add Sustain parameter to the envelope it would be much better Kick synth. The ability to play in semitones is great and super-fast to tune your kick to the track's root note.

I am not sure as I never try but I would say if you have a midi chain, let's say with your cycles you want to control your jomox but also another drum module, you will plug the cycle to jonox in, and jonox out to the other drum module . This way you can sequence the other drum module with the cycles, (using different midi channel for exemple) ... And you can chain like this mutliple machine

i have both volca kick and mbase11 and they both sound great but different at the same time. I could say that the volca kick is more fun to play by its own because of the sequencer tricks. It has some interesting features like the motion sequence, bend reverse and slides, also you can store 16 patterns that include all the parameters state. You can also make 303-like basslines! (beacause of the accents and the slides) Apart from that, the kicks sound loud and fat only when the Drive knob is a bit high, which introduces some overdrive (not bad distorting though). That means that you can't really make a clean long-decay 808 kick that is also loud. But for 909 kick it's totally great and punchy. Great also for hardcore - tekno kicks. For me the main drawback is that it doesn't receive velocity data, which is a shame. The Mbase11 has a more "metal-like" sound, it sounds clean and punchy, as we heard in the video, it always cuts through the mix and with some effects it really shines. I think the most interesting feature is the LFO feature, you can create many unusual kicks. The main drawback is that you need an external midi controller to properly use it in a live situation, as you can't control more than one function at a time. But if you play using a preset that you made before it's ok. When i want a warm, overdriven kick, i use the volca. When i want a colder bassy and puchy kick i use the mbase11 :)

@audioreakt
@audioreakt Жыл бұрын
i don;t know how to explain it, but for exemple making kick with the jmox or with Kick2 its two differnt way. The jomox is more analog punchy raw style of kick which in most case will need some processing on depending the style of music you do. Where for exemple when you use vst like Kick2 or punchbox somehow it feel the kick are more modern, maybe the layering and process fx that are incluning int the vst deos that. Idk but my point was if you are looking for modern sounding kick ( = process/layered kick), you might be disappointing in that type of machine because you will need extra work to make it feat your track.
@meilstone
@meilstone Жыл бұрын
@@audioreakt Good explanation. I see what you mean and agree that processing is definitely required to stand out in a current House or Techno mix. With EQ, some light compression as well as a subtle dash of distortion, I manage to create House Kicks that live up to today's "standards" without the need to layer it. The attack noise of the MBase is basically already the top layer that cuts through the mix. I have also used Kick 2 and Punchbox. To me, Kick 2 has proven to be the best VST for fast, professional results: in no time, you get a great kick sound ready for use in a modern track without any further external processing. However, keep in mind that aside from layers (which is nothing new) even the plugins feature a heavy internal processing chain.

depedn your midi controller but if you are using a beatstep, you have a midi editor and you can match the midi channel and CC on the knob to the corresponding parameter on the Mbase11, you need to check the Midi implementation on the Mbase manual to know how to set it.
