@@SomeOne-iq5zy I believe they do. And I do feel they have an even bigger platform, than males. Charts are dominated by female artists nowadays. So I get surprised about reading comments about females not having space in music.
@fcayhr
@fcayhr 3 жыл бұрын
@@evoski3 i understand what you're saying about women dominating music charts but off the top of my head, i'd assume they're mainly popular in pop music and its variants. maybe some indie. (maybe rnb? i think rnb charts are balanced in gender, but then i would say indie is too, haha.) i also agree that the artists with the largest platforms are usually women, though again, mainly pop artists! when i read these comments about women taking up space in music, it's obvious to me that they're talking about female * musicians *, like jon batiste's band here. (of course, i think about songwriters, producers, and women in other executive positions too. after all, to talk about any ~representation disparity~ in any type of media seems performative if we don't think about those who work behind the scenes as well.) and while we're on this note, i also think of seeing women take up more space, whether as vocalists or musicians, in non-pop genres as well. and i might not actually have to say this, but of course this isn't about wanting to see more women just for the sake of gender equality or whatever. it's that with all the musical talent in the world, it makes sense for there to be just as many talented women as there are men in the same spaces :)
@grawham
@grawham 3 жыл бұрын
@@evoski3 I definitely see what you mean but you just don't see nearly as many women represented in non-pop scenes like bluegrass or jazz. It's not that they aren't there, or that they aren't successful there, but if you go into any music club with a house band or whatever, it's pretty much always big-majority if not entirely dudes =/

A breathtaking performance by all group members. Jon Batiste’s role on the Late show draws heavily on both his charismatic persona and musicianship, however he never shines like he does here. He doesn't compete with Colbert, he complements him. It doesn't mean he can't play front man, but part of being a great musician is to be able to play back and forth with others to build something greater in the whole. He strikes the perfect balance in both situations; always impressive.
