I finally figured out why this version is so deeply moving. He sings it as if he believes it. Because he does believe it. In spite of all the horrors and pain and frightening situations around, somehow he still manages to look at the world and see beauty and wonder, and express it through his voice and his hands. there needs to be a bigger word than "talented" to describe that gift.
