Awesome story. Classy way for John Denver to re-pay them for writing "Country Roads." A lot of people still don't know Bill and Taffy Danoff wrote that song. It's hard to imagine the summer of '76 without "Afternoon Delight," but as much as I'd like to think it would've been a hit on its own merits, I have to wonder if it would have been anywhere near as big if John hadn't taken Starland on tour with him that year ...

We like to think that the song would have been a hit here in the States,As Fat City (pre Starland)we already had a following overseas,in fact we filmed a video of AD for European release and released the song in Europe before the States,so it was played on radio overseas before here,but touring with John was a plus for everyone because we sang backup on his Spirit album which was the name of his tour,so we did double duty as his backup band as well as opening for him that year

Mostly providing backup vocals for Mary Chapin Carpenter and Rodney Crowell, he tours exclusively with Chapin Carpenter

And this was actually 1998 during a tribute to John Denver a year after he was killed,by this time Jon is married to Meredith Tomalin, Susan Sarandon's sister, they've been married for 20+ years
