Jon English Sings Superstar - Australian Production 1972

Jon English singing "Superstar" from the Australian stage production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" back in the 1970's.
I still have the original vinyl album, libretto and program which were all valuable for some of the pictures.
As far as I know this album is not available any longer, and certainly not in CD format - yet!

Saw this with my school in the seventies. I was transfixed! Loved Jon as Judas - looked a rakish lad in those days! Kind of fancied 'im! 😊

Jon English had the BEST voice, what an amazing production!

We were poor students with little money but we set aside enough to see Jon performing in Superstar. That was in the early 70s before we were married. The most enduring memory of the show was the size of the speakers and the volume of the sound. I would have preferred to be able to lower the volume.

I am lucky to be old enough to have seen the original Australian cast and have the vinyl but my pride of joy are the original programmes autographed by Trevor White, Jon English, Stevie Wright, and ended up seeing JCS 11 times. I still am amazed at the perfection of the cast and the stage design - best I have seen,

I used to try and talk people into coming with me to see it but in end I ran out of friends and family that hadnt seen it at least once..lol I also remember I was just as avid about Paul Newman and saw Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid 12 times as well at the Paris Theatre in the City and then the Star at Bondi Junction

+j9andphoenix Oh dear - makes my mere 6 times seeing this amazing wonderful show, seem small! But oh boy, was there ever a better show. I came out wired the first time, I can still remember it and was back there the following week for more.

+Cathrine Sendall Hope I can help! I have a blog which, if you google this song or any other songs I have on You Tube, you should be able to find easily. I have a link to download this album, as well as the live concert version which has all the songs (2 cds). So there are two versions of JCSS, as well as some other rare songs to download. Once downloaded you can burn all to to a cd. That will work fine. So many great performances, so many fans, so many people missing him:( Let me know if you have any success! There is no CD available commercially of either of these albums and although Jon said last year that 'they were working on it' - that is making it available it isn't going to happen. A lot of his other work is being re-released but not this.

Tim Minchin was a brilliant Judas and probably brought stronger acting skills to the role, but I cannot go past Jon English as my definitive Judas.
