Nobody could play those high notes with such power and consistency as Jon could. Even Dizzy couldn’t keep up with Jon’s stratospheric soaring into the upper register. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a trumpet player who could match Jon’s ability to consistently nail those insanely high notes.

This was from Montreux in '77. His regular rhythm section ended up in France so they got a couple of fill ins. Milt Jackson on vibes, Ray Brown on bass, Monty Alexander on piano, and Jimmie Smith on drums. They played the full set without any rehearsal.
