The cope is pathetic dude 😂 The gloves were trash.. idk if you noticed, but alot of the fighters have been pressing the padding in the knuckles alot more frequently since they incorporated them. The padding is not as good and doesn't give the fighters as much protection on their hands. Periera broke his hand on Roundtrees head because of this. 🤦♂️ They also haven't prevented a single eye poke which was supposed to be their entire purpose. There is literally no reason to keep them and at least the old gloves actually protect their hands. Also gold just looks horrible in my opinion. Tacky.

Great video. Imo this was the best Jon Jones performance. Showcased all of his skills. His Tyson combos, right hand to the body right uppercut and same on the left side of Glover, was nice. The elbows in close sliced Glover up. Mir locks and and an array of kicks had him guessing all night.

It's called Ude Garami (same as a kimura/americana on the ground), classic Judo/Jujutsu move. Ironically many people say standing locks don't work in MMA but they absolutely do and have many use cases. Ude garami (both this kind and the kimura kind), Waki gatame and kote gaeshi are probably the best, but the last one has problems same as wrist locks on the ground bc wrists are wrapped so strongly to give punches an advantage.

@statictech710 күн бұрын
I had a lot of success using this to set up armbars on the opposite arm. Especially on wrestlers, they feel uncomfortable without underhooks in guard so they just give you this option every time. Won an amateur mma fight that exact way. Its an excellent way to immediately be able to threaten a sub from full guard without having to take any risk. It forces a reaction and at the very least they are then afraid to get underhooks on you after that. But i was doing this 10 years ago so its very cool to see a video on this now. Thanks for taking me down memory lane Jack. I wrote my comments before I saw Craig do it at 13:30, very happy to see that!

Jack Ive been talking about this technique for years with JJ using it and Im glad to see someone finally took the time to display it. He mentioned in the pre fight mulitple times about Stipes right hand, and I immediately thought he might do what he did to Glover and just remove that threat entirely. JJ is a POS, but its techniques like this and the oblique kick that set him apart from everyone else. Hes just vicious and these moves are a huge part of his success. Its a shame more dont try to replicate this if they want to excel like he has.

Used to think this was dirty, but you have to keep grappling honest. Same as wrist locks. Guys should at least be aware of it. The difference isn't standing vs grounded, it's the difference between controlled pressure vs ripping on a lock hoping to break your opponent i.e. the way Jones does it. Same reason why some people view knee stomps as dirty, even though they're perfectly legal.

This is just a very, very old school BJJ self-defense technique. I learned this back in the 90s when BJJ instructors still taught self-defense. Now everyone is doing ashi-gatame, berimbolos and seated kata-gatames. 🤷♂️
@boojeboy111 күн бұрын
20:55 PS: To do the standing version correctly, you need to step your same side leg ACROSS the opponent to block them from moving/stepping around your body to relieve the pressure. You can still maybe get a shoulder wrench/crank out of it without using your leg if you do it fast and really whip their arm, but if you step your leg across you can really crank on their arm and break it.
@HoboGardenerBen11 күн бұрын
@@boojeboy1 Wouldn't that make it slower? The one the guy did on Strickland was fast, a fluid snap, seemed to hurt plenty and kept him more at a distance.
@boojeboy111 күн бұрын
@@HoboGardenerBenIf you step your leg across they can’t follow you around to relieve pressure on the lock since it’s blocking them. If you do it without the leg it is faster but more of a quick crank that will tweak and injure an arm but it isn’t necessarily a “fight ender” since it isn’t as tight. It is a little slower bringing the leg across 👍but if you do you also open up various hip throws. It’s the equivalent of how Frank Mir uses the knee shield to block the opponent. But when standing you can work in harai-goshi, uchimata, go back to an inside trip etc, or turn the crank itself into waki-gatame a la Shinya Aoki. Standing joint locks are never really meant to be used in isolation, sure, they CAN work that way, but ultimately they should be used in conjunction and combination with one another, blending unbalancing with standing joint locks or throws to joint locks.
@HoboGardenerBen11 күн бұрын
@boojeboy1 Cool, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining :)
