He's a consistent #3 or #2 who can win you any given game. AND he's a bargain at 24M per year whose locked in for 3 more years. Why do O's fans think they can get him from the M's for prospects they don't need? Or fringe MLBers? It's going to be painful to get him. As it should be.

I think the window for Castillo is actually gone. I think we talked to the Mariners before we signed Morton. I think we talked to them and they probably wanted Mayo in return and we said no. I think snatched Morton to make sure we got a pitcher
@matthew145215 күн бұрын
I don’t think people are adding in the extra value that DiPoto snuck in to the contract. If Castillo gets Tommy John between 2025-2027.. his vesting $25M year in 2028 becomes a $5M team option. In an era where pitchers are increasingly getting this injury, having some insurance built into the contract is huge. Castillo also has been a workhorse. This depends on the orioles and what they want to pay. Pay less in talent and take on the money? Great you get Castillo. Want any of the other four? Gonna take you multiple MLB ready pre arb bats. Just the way it is. Castillos $$$ is what makes him realistic without subtracting major pieces. Really hope we can make a trade happen. Orioles and M’s pair up nicely for a deal. You guys signed a 41 year old Charlie Morton, who had a 4.19 ERA, 99 ERA+, and very underwhelming analytics in his profile. For $15M. Yes Castillo is more expensive but he’s younger, durable, and has better underlying stuff. 93rd percentile fastball value & 82nd percentile breaking value. Also the current pitching market, Castillo is on a friendly deal. If you guys get him you will be happy. He’s a great pitcher and while he has declined slightly with age as expected, it’s only so noticeable when paired with our stellar young guys just entering their primes. If you guys get Castillo it would be a good addition for sure. For multiple years. Great veteran presence in your rotation also.

As a Mariners fan, they are a “cheap” ownership as why they’re not willing to spend on or trade for anyone without adding onto their payroll of something like $150-$160 million payroll for 2025 season. It’s stated they have only $15 million currently this offseason they can spend. Luis Castillo cost something like $20+ million this season, they would prefer to shred that off their payroll. As why they’re looking to trade him. To the orioles for him + add in a prospect too for either Coby Mayo, Mountcastle or Jordan Westburg.
@anthonydion673415 күн бұрын
Don't listen to everything you read/hear. The Mariners aren't going to come out and tell anyone what their max budget is. And it's not so much about being "cheap" (remember, they took on entire Arrozarena cost at deadline), it's an approach to FA that they don't desire to engage in LT deals with 30+ year olds. Few of those deals work out well. So good on them. And secondly, they engage with certain players, Walker and Santana for instance this winter, and neither opted to sign here, taking less money in Santana's case to play in CLE. This is also a common refrain. Hitters don't want to come to SEA. Fine. We'll draft, trade and develop our own

Mariner fan here. I've been listening to your take on the potential for a trade, and it brings to my mind a slightly different scenario. What if Seattle was willing to eat $5 million of Castillo's contract, PLUS sends one of our top tier middle infielders, for Mayo?
@jeffnak559814 күн бұрын
That's an insane overpay. Mayo for Castillo straight up is fair and really the only thing interesting to them. The M's have a first baseman, they have nothing at 3rd. Mayo is the guy. Any prospects added for the O's would be fringe prospects not of great value.
@mathis2114 күн бұрын
@@jeffnak5598 I'd like to believe that Castillo straight up for Mayo is a fair trade, but it really isn't. The bottom line is that the M's need to do something much more than the Orioles. Does that mean it's a desperation move? Maybe, but I don't think so.
@jeffnak559814 күн бұрын
@mathis21 It is, though, and it's not difficult to see why. The pitching market is very valuable this year. Castillo would get close to 35 million in free agency in this market, so he's a bargain, not overpaid. Pitching is also more valuable than hitting. Fans need to quit buying into people who don't know what they're talking about when saying Castillo is expensive because he's not in this market. Mathew Boyd got almost 20 million, and he's not on Castillo's level. A mid starter in Cortes brought back one of the best closers in baseball for the Yankees. That says more about a starters' value than anything. Mayo is very fair straight up. Quit trying to act otherwise. There's a good reason Jerry isn't taking trash deals like Yoshida/Casas. He knows the value and won't be short changed because teams want to take advantage of our need for offense. We're better off keeping him if our demands aren't met, simple as that.
@DennisK-q9g14 күн бұрын
I would disagree. Baltmore needs a top notch starter as much, if not more, then Mariners need a bat. Baltimore is not a championship contender without more starting pitching. Seattle needs too much to be a contender.
