BIT OF TRIVIA: The official name for this story is "The Shrink," and it was written by an unknown little BBC intern named *_RUSSELL T. DAVIES_*

This video is amazing. Not seen it before. Loved Jon Pertwee. He was my first Doctor. I was 8 years old when Jon appeared for the first time in colour in 1973. Special time.

"You are called Doctor Who?" "No, other people call me that." CONFIRMATION THAT THE CHARACTER'S NAME IS NOT DOCTOR WHO. (It's The Doctor.)

It could well be but according to wikipaedia, it's either Andrew O'Connor or Terry Randall. :-)

In The Armageddon Factor, Drax (another Timelord and a friend of The Doctor's from their academy days) said that The Doctor's real name was Theta Sigma. At the time that was that. But I have heard it said that it has later been said that that was just a nickname or something, thereby re-establishing the mystery of his true identity.

@@martinwood744 Yeah, it was officially retconned onscreen in the episode "The Happiness Patrol" that (I'm not making this up) it was his nickname in College. If you take the expanded media as canon (The TV-show basically ignores it, so I really don't), it's possible that Theta Sigma is meant to be a shortened version of his real name... ∂³Σx². Fans have debated if this one is legit for years, given the TV vs expanded canon continuities. If we only accept the TV-show as canon, then we have two clues: The 1st and 7th Doctors both implied he was important to the formation of Time Lord society. In "The Five Doctors," the expanded canon name can be seen inscribed on the walls of the tomb of Rasillon, a figure important to the formation of Time Lord society. So... do with that what you will, as far as the name's canonicity.
