Thanks very much for uploading this. A wonderful reminder of how the Manchester music and club scene was back in the pre-corporate Manchester days of the late 80s and early 90s. Would love to see the rest of it. DD

Ahhhhhhhhh...those were the days - the early 90s in Manc were some of the best times ever. The Boddingtons festival that took place annually every autumn between 1991 and 1995 was one of my favourite culture/music/comedy fests ever..... used to love attending all the events at various venues in the city and outside the centre....sadly many of those venues have long gone or been bulldozed into submission by this seemingly neverending wave of godawful, soulless ugly gentrification that is now, if anything, having an even more adverse effect on what is left of Manchester's fine musical heritage.... (see recent story with Night and Day for example). We don't want any more fucking monstrous skyscraper towers and apartments - we just want all our old beloved venues back. The Boardwalk in particular... RIP...... :/

The thing is these were peoples homes where they were brought up from babies, not just trendy place to hang out in your 20's making music. People had to grow up hear, play in the bull ring , sit outside the pub for their parents, some of us were taken and put into care. This was our home before it was some party, student band forming place. So just remember that Jon Savage. We're the parents of alcoholics and still bear the scars, where is our story

Manchester is a dead zone artistically compared to the 80s, now just living off it's big names from those days, clubs are all the same corporate commercial crap, there to fleece the punter out of as much as they can with overpriced drinks. If you want to create a lot of artistic/musical types you have to have the right environment, separate from the Herd and without the mainstream society's failures around them. Hulme was also a dumping ground for Manchester's care in the community mental health patients, criminals housed there on release, antisocial tenants moved from other places to Hulme. Right from the start Hulme was run into the ground by the council, as soon as the Police discovered how hard it was to police they didn't like it, to them it was like dealing with a military fortification, so of course the Criminals moved in then
