This was an excellent win Jon. Shows you are growing as a coach. The FT correction/improvement made this comeback more seamless and slammed the door on any late rally’s. But what did you learn in this game??? 1) You need to come out with a punch on the road (really in every game!!!). You need to hunt your opponent and play with more anger/ferocity and purpose/poise. 2) Your perimeter defense was garbage. When you rewatch the tape, you will see Louisville’s on ball defense was much more aggressive than yours for most of the game. That is unacceptable given the size you have. Their guards outplayed you on the perimeter defensively! And ALL of your guys are to blame. You need to get your guys back on the same page and connected with one another - this will be a challenge with guys like Evans who needs to be coached harder and you coach him harder because you will need him to be a starter by March if you are serious about winning a title. Communication simply isn’t enough as plays are made in the blink of an eye. 3) You need to have better understanding of player personnel. First, this was the perfect game for Maluach and Brown to play the 4,5 together. You needed a larger, peskier guy on the perimeter disrupting their 3PT shooting. They did get easy guard penetration at times, but really the only thing beating you this game was their red hot 3PT shooting. Maluach can stay under the paint and Brown can help clog the perimeter during ball screens and force turnovers. Second, sure Kon shot better in the 2nd half when the pressure of the game declined, but he’s choking right now. Do him a favor and sit him. He needs help/motivation finding his edge again. Come find me Jon. You did an outstanding job developing Mark Mitchell at the 4 last year. Creating a physical defensive specimen who also crashed the glass. You need to have the same approach with Evans. If you can create this, you can win in April. 4) You have the best defense on Kenpom. But your offense needs more juice Jon. You have the size to create space through screens. Utilize it!!! Create more set plays to get good looks for your players. Try and get a few more possessions in the post for Maluach to open up the perimeter. Consider moving Proctor back to PG given his elusiveness to create space as well as opportunities for others. Coach Foster harder. Don’t worry if he transfers. He’s a dime a dozen in the portal. But we need his penetration abilities. He needs to be more reliable from the perimeter. He’s absolutely capable of this, would love to see him put it together.

@Funny you say that because I’ve made a number of bold statements in the past and the next day talking heads publicly state it. People comb through social media to help them provide “expert” analysis. Intelligent ideas always find its way to the surface. No one was talking about Kenpom before I gave the deep dive analysis on its reliability to Championship Teams years back. Now all you hear is Kenpom in every single game or media breakdown. And rightfully so. The data is undeniable. Duke is Top 3 in Kenpom right now. There have only been 3 teams to win a title outside of the Top 3 since 2001. This is statistically significantly for Duke fans. If we can get our offense into the top 6 and remain the #1 defense, history is on our side for a title. This is why I have been pushing the Isaiah Evans narrative kid. Winning largely comes down to efficiencies which incorporates the 4 factors of basketball. Again, intelligence always surfaces.
