Actually it was due to Iran and Russia not helping them. Syrian forces saw the writing on the wall and so they switched sides, surrendered or fled. Who saved Assad the first time? In the summer of 2015 Damascus was rumored to fall by December but Russia, Iran and Hezbollah saved it. Israel's 14 month conflict with Hezbollah not only weakened Hezbollah but it also drained Iran of money and supplies too. Iran has also been drained helping Russia. Russia has also been drained by fighting in Ukraine for 2+ years. That's why it all happened so fast and easily.

Your analyses would make me laugh so much I’d finally feel at peace enough to maybe sleep. Thank you for the work you do. Liberals are celebrating that ISIS and Al Qaida have conquered a country Upside-down world keeps getting weirder There are reports that HTS has announced Sharia will soon be implemented and Christians could have their homes searched in the coming days. It’s hard to verify such claims 100% with events moving so quickly, but it appears the public executions have already started. Assad is believed to have fled Syria before he got the Gaddafi treatment and I can’t say I blame him. Who would want their corpse to be paraded through a shopping mall? It looks like the conscripts in the Syrian army just weren’t as committed as the Jihadists, and Russia and Iran pulled the plug when they realised they were a lost cause. It’s not just the withdrawal of Russian and Iranian support that led to Syria’s collapse, the biggest factor is the role of the West and its Middle East outpost. The US and Israel have provided air support to the proscribed terrorist organisation that they describe as a merger of Al Qaida and Nusra (they forgot ISIS). I feel like I say this all the time, but this is a real mask off moment. We are the terrorists of the Middle East. www.antiimperialist.news/p/liberals-are-celebrating-that-isis

We'll measure him by his deeds. Maybe I want to see it, but he has a kindness in his eyes that Trump definitely doesn't. And what he says about how your views change when you get older makes sense. Of course, from the comfort of a Western Country Couch, it seems an extreme choice to join Al Qaeda, but considering under what regime he grew up and what little choices of protest one had, to join Al Qaeda when you are 20 or so shouldn't be blindly excused, but one could see a determination to fight for a change in Syria. After all, he did break with Al Qaeda and one of the first things he put out after winning was a post saying that it was forbidden to put rules or laws on how women can and cannot dress. Time will tell what kind of leader he will be, but there sure are signs for reasonable hope.

But on a serious note though, Syrians have, at last, got rid of this brutal, narcissistic, vicious, and stubborn dictator, but the next period could be also scary. I cannot recall a single arab democracy that was built after a revolution, especially when religion is playing a role. However, many Syrians are still a bit hopeful, and many more are even "certain" that the future is a democracy with everyone under the rule of law (not sharia). A Syria for all Syrians. Afterall, it doesn't take much to get us to be a bit hopeful since the bar was so low in the past 53 years. I'm all hopes that the world will help Syria get to safety. Edit: By the way, honest decent Syrians were disappointed by the looting behaviour, but to be fair, these folks looted plates and chairs while Assad looted the Central Bank of Syria. Sad reality.

He might have been afraid they would find whatever he ditched - they would have. They would have had fingerprints, fake IDs, etc., they would have found them. But he never should have had evidence on him in McDonalds, by himself, ffs. How did he not manage to get a different hat and ditch the facemask by now? who is wearing Facemasks in Altoona McDonalds today? what 26 year old athletic guys? NONE! IT WAS A DEAD GIVEAWAY. I cannot tell you how absolutely thrilled I am for Syrians. I cannot wait to see how Syria will rebuild and relive and rejoice. I wish you all a very prosperous and well deserved life of freedom. I do not know if you are in Syria or in America, but we are definitely supporting you all in this journey forward. The only thing that keeps us apart is leaders who oppress us and engage in unnecessary and brutal wars. Peace to all.
