New Zealand wing Jonah Lomu creates complete and utter carnage against the nations of the British Isles during the 1995 World Cup in South Africa.
First up is Ireland in Johannesburg who get demolished, as Lomu bashes them about to score 2 tries, create another as well as create a try that was disallowed with his very first touch.
Then it's onto Wales in the same city, the ball doesn't come his way so often and he is kept quieter, but leaves his mark eventually showing his great pace and then strength to create a second try in two games for flanker Josh Kronfeld.
After being rested for the match against Japan, next up is the quarter final in Pretoria against Scotland where he uses his pace and power to create a try with his first touch, and goes over to score a try for his own soon after.
Then in the semi final against England in Cape Town, Lomu delivers a famous performance steamrollering Mike Catt for his first try and going on to get 4 in the game and aged just 20 establish himself as an international sporting superstar.

As a Kiwi I was in rugby heaven seeing Jonah destroy England in '95. Yet I recall that Jonah never gloated about that magnificent feat, and was truly gracious and magnanimous in victory. I learned more from Jonah's actions in his subsequent years off the field, than I did from what he did on it. He was the epitome of sportsmanship, and a legend of the game. RIP big man.

Fair point. I'm English and remember this game well, was in high school at the time. We (England) had a good rugby side in the 90s and even played quite well in this match; but of course we had no answer to Lomu. He just arrived out of nowhere in this tournament and basically owned it; was NZ's ace card in the deck and was unstoppable in this match against a good rugby team. There may never be a rugby player like this ever again, a true exceptional talent. RIP Big Jonah.

Any man who puts the wind up Will Carling, brushes off Rob Andrew and Tony Underwood and runs over Mike Catt must be admired. As a life long England supporter I should have been appalled, but could only sit and stare in wonder. Truly there NEVER will be another. RIP Jonah.

I WAS apalled at the time, that was as much as the coaching and the team pick, but regardless, NZ would have won that game 10/10. As an Englishman it depressed me at the time, but like everyone I realised how ridiculous Jonah was and what a huge talent and asset to the game he was an always will be. He wasn't alone in that AB squad, even without Lomu they'd have done us, closer, but still done us. Weird fact, captain Carling scored 2 tries against the ABs that day, but Jonah stomped that. Good on him, great bloke.

I was only 12 in 1995, but I knew even at that young age what a special sportsperson Jonah Lomu was. World Cups brought unknowns right into the forefront internationally back then (rugby and football), there wasn't the same exposure back then as there is now. Lomu appeared like some sort of mythical figure, godlike almost, it honestly didn't look possible to stop him. South Africa pulled off a marvellous display on him to stop him in the final to create their own bit of magic in the tournament, everything consider you'd have to think that I can't see another World Cup to top that for a very, very long time. Back to Lomu, he had the whole lot, speed, power, strength, movement, physiology. I wouldn't be the biggest fan of rugby, but watching him in 95 was a real treat for anyone who likes sport. Just a couple of years later his career was effectively over, and just 20 years later he was dead. A cruel turn of events.

The greatest No.11 in the history of the game...or will ever be! Jonah was truly a phenomenon, who would of thought a man built like a lock/loose forward could run like an Olympic 100m sprinter! Jonah gave us so many amazing memories, winning the gold medal with the New Zealand sevens rugby team at the commonwealth games in Kuala Lumpur 1998. His match winning try in the "greatest game ever", against Australia in 2000. Running over the Top of Mike Katt to score in the 1995 world cup. So, thank you Jonah for doing so much for the game that we all love. P.s. How good was Josh Kronfeld to be in support of Jonah. A most underrated open side flanker in my opinion.

Zin Zan Brooke getting a drop goal was the ultimate lemon juice in a paper cut moment. Second half was a bit more respectable as the defence got a bit more organized. A player who was beyond anyone else of his time, I don't think I have ever seen any other player just run over opposition players like Jonah Lomu. I am just glad we, South Africa, were able to shut him down in 1995. But I just want to keep watching him scoring, and scoring unless it's against South Africa. Because he had a skill no team seemed to know how to handle. It was quite impressive but also so typically All Black. Not much brutality as just pure pace, and skill of dodging, squeezing through and being downright heavy and big player.

Best ever player and no one trick pony either like some big backs who can only use their size to run straight at defenders ... lomu had it all... immense pace, agility, a fantastic step for such a huge winger and yes when needed could also just run straight through other players .. every time the ball went to lomu?? There was a buzz of excitement in the crowd .. not many players achieve that at the very top tier ....
