I added the sub to my Arc, and it transforms the bar, the lows are all off loaded to the sub and then the drivers that power the lows on the bar turn to powering the mids and highs. Effectively the sub doesnt just add better lows, it boosts all the mids and highs too. You really notice it.

I'm gonna be that guy... -HDMI ARC works exactly the same as eARC, eARC just has higher bandwidth. The passthrough on some soundbars (HDMI in) isn't required for ARC to work. -Mbps is written as such, not Mbits/second (think mph vs miles/hour, correct but not how it's written as a spec) [that's an engineering nitpick for future reference, not a dig]. -ARC's bandwidth is still good enough to use Dolby Atmos, it's not an "issue" rather eARC gives breadth to the lossless signals and slight improvements to the lossy signals. -no compression leads to lossless signals, compression leads to lossy signals. It's not "what they call it", it's how the signal's information is packaged and what ends up being delivered. I wrote this because my Dad asked me questions about it after he watched it and I had to explain to him the minor discrepancies, so this is for anyone else that needed a little clarification. Like "so my ARC soundbar doesn't do Dolby Atmos (anymore)?".
@rollingstone71604 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining Dolby Digital Plus being compressed Atmos which works over regular ARC. I was able to check the specs on my TV to confirm this. Literally no other review has been able to articulate this. Great review.

Isn’t always compressed through arc ? I’ve heard ARC can play Atmos as long as the tv supports it through arc?

@@TheZumaah I guess technically, 5.1 and up is compressed when using standard ARC. If you are using eARC then it is uncompressed Dolby Atmos. But if you are using standard ARC, then it will be compressed.

Your review comparing sounders convinced me the Sonos is the system to get. I have had my Sonos ARC system for a month or so. ARC, One SL surrounds AND the Sonos Gen 3 Sub. I am extremely impressed with the system. The Sub surprised me at how deep it goes, yet it is very musical and well integrated. It doesn't just add 'boom'. the center channel for dialogue and detail is exceptionally clear. Even though I have high 12' vaulted ceiling on the wall where the ARC soundbar is mounted, I still get a nice sense of up-firing sounds from the Dolby Atmos speakers. In short, I am blown away at the overall performance of the system. If I had one complaint, it would be the system can be somewhat bright, even when I dial down the Treble EQ range. It is not however a deal breaker. The benefits of this system are massive. I love it. I was thinking of adding a second sub just to see how it performs. I don't feel I need it however. But I am curious. Pricey however, so I'll hang back for a bit.

Love it, many many years ago a business I worked for developed new phone sets that went on office workers desks, particularly on people who controlled the stock markets, the technology was amazing, but the phones were incredibly light. Customers who checked the demo models said it felt cheap. The business I worked for added lead fishing weights with a hot glue gun to the demo models to make them heavier, with exactly the same technology the customers said it felt like a quality phone set. It’s strange that weight adds to quality.

@David Mander I've had both and honestly, I like Sonos better. I have a separate HiFi system for 2-channel stereo but for TV and surround sound having a wireless system it's pretty good and with the HDMI Arc you only need one remote, the one for the TV. Sounds is good and usability is awesome.

@David Mander No it doesn't suck. If you don't have one then how would you know. All separates are great, but to install ALL of them, wire them and power them is not cheap! Hi Jonah Great allround review (one of the best reviews on the Arc, that I have seen so far). I really like the fact that your aren't affected by any sort of bias. I recieved my own Arc 4 days ago, and I simply love it. I bought this as a replacement for my old Beam, which was combined with both the Sonos Sub and two Play 1's, that was functioning as rear sourround speakers. The Beam is now moved to my bedroom and the Sub and Play 1's, are instead connected to the Arc. This really gives me an audio experience like no other. The whole setup is connected to my 2018 LG C8, that "only" have at normal HDMI-ARC connection. I did my research before I ordered the soundbar, to make sure that it atleast could output lossy Dolby Atmos, which it could/can. What I didn't realise, was that my tv allso was capable of outputting DA from my UHD blu-rays. When the wife and I, watched Infinity war (on UHD blu-ray that is), the Sonos app indeed confirm that the soundbar was playing Dolby Atmos. I thought that blu-ray movies only supported lossless DA. Can anyone confirm that DA blu-rays indeed is capable of being outputed as lossy Dolby Digital+?
@richellebrittain21274 жыл бұрын
My TCL Roku TV is set to convert any audio that isn't DD+ or DTS to DD+ before sending it over ARC; it will also output Atmos over DD+ from Roku apps. I can't confirm if I'm getting Atmos as I'm currently using an older AVR, but I am getting DD+ over ARC even though my AVR is from 2011 (5 years before DD+ was officially supported over ARC). Either your Blu-ray player or your TV apparently converts Atmos over TrueHD to Atmos over DD+, or possibly your TV got a firmware upgrade to eARC.

GREAT review. I want to upgrade from my existing Samsung sound bar set up. I’m apprehensive about the Arc not having HDMI IN, because everything works so seamlessly at the moment with my Apple TV plugged into the Samsung bar and then the bar plugged into the Samsung TV. I can use the Apple TV remote to turn all of the devices on/off and control the volume on the sound bar. I want to replicate that experience with the Arc and wonder if the lack of eArc on my TV will impact that.

2:41 This IS an issue, since Dolby Atmos is one of the biggest perks of the ARC soundbar and also one of the few justifications for the massive price. If you guys have no eARC TV, it makes much more sense to invest in a newer TV first, before going for the new Sonos ARC soundbar.

Hey before you mount your Arc check the spec it says you should mount about 105mm (4") from the bottom of the TV due to the upward firing speaker. I've had my arc for a couple days now it sounds incredible!! Playing Atmos tracks from my phone using Tidal is the best sound I've heard in my life. However, there are major problems with my new Samsung TV, not sure if same models in the USA but I bought an 85" Q950T (Australia). The audio drops in and out every other second it's awful. So I bought a Q70 Samsung bar today just to test, same deal. There's huge issues with Samsung 2020 TVs particularity 950 series and The Frame. I'm using HDMI 2.1b 8K cables and/or the one that comes with Arc. Nothing works. The only way I can get constant sound without drop outs is to change the setting in the TV to tell it the soundbar is NOT Atmos compatible, even though it's detected as being so (both the Q70 and the Arc). It would seem the eARC and Atmos in the Samsung range is in desperate need of firmware updates ASAP. Great review.

Then how Are You going to get the atmos connected to My blueray player or console When there Are No more eark slots, and I cant connect it to the sonos directly because it only has one single hdmi slot? 🤔 Can i just connect the ps4 to a normal slot and then it Will send the dolby atmos signal the the soundbar anyway?
@JonahMatthes4 жыл бұрын
That’s right! So any device that you connect to your TV by HDMI cable will have its audio sent to the soundbar. The eARC and ARC HDMI ports basically just route any audio signal to the soundbar. Hope that makes sense!

Using ARC will give you compressed Dolby Atmos, and connecting the Apple TV directly to the Sennheisser will likely give you uncompressed Dolby Atmos. I don't have any experience with the Sennheisser Ambeo, so I can't attest to its Dolby Atmos quality.

I have a 2016 samsung ks8000. Should I still buy a sonos arc even though my tv isn't compatible with Dolby atmos and no e arc?

Which do you think sounds better for movies: Sonos Arc with a sub or the Nakamichi 9.2.4 Atmos?
@JonahMatthes4 жыл бұрын
Without hearing both of these exact systems, I would say that the Sonos Arc would be the better system over the Nakamichi Shockwave Ultra. The mids and highs completely destroy the Nakamichi’s. And the Sonos Sub has a lot more ooomph than the Nakamichi Sun. BUT the Ultra is still an amazing system!

Hi, if your tv supports Dolby digital plus but the channel your watching from your cable provider or prime video is not broadcasted in Atmos will the sound be disbursed to the Atmos speakers without getting the Atmos effect?

Very detailed review, loved it 😍 I want to know if atmos will work if my ceiling is at 20ft high and it's square? I'm stuck between Bose 700 and ARC

Great vid! Question tho. I have a fairly old tv it’s a Panasonic plasma so my only option is using the digital optical to HDMI adapter. Someone may be getting this for Xmas for me and I want a sound bar that’s somewhat future proof. Will this set up work until I get a new tv that has earc/arc? I have Apple TV and I wish i could just plug it into soundbar

Yes, this setup will work until you get a new TV!

@@JonahMatthes thanks for the reply. If I got the Sonos surround speakers with the arc would they also work if I don’t have earc/arc and just the optical/HDMI adapter?

Great review. One question. Maybe you addressed it and I just missed it. If you use your direct tv remote will that work the sound on the Soundbar or do you have to use the Sonos remote to change the volume? Make sense? Thanks in advance.

Geo Vargas I dont think Sonos products come with dedicated remote controller... But you can use the Sonos app as your remote controller - downloadable from both iOS and Google playstore
@alexrambolton4 жыл бұрын
Geo Vargas, all Sonos sound bars can use a 3rd party remote to control volume. So yes. It will show you in the set up process.

Great review. I have a Vizio p65-e1. It does have HDMI arc but I'm still not sure if the TV would support Dolby digital plus from Netflix or Amazon prime ? I have a fire TV stick 4k 2019 and an earlier version of Amazon fire TV 4k.

Bravo to you Jonah, the way you explained audio formats is the best I've ever heard. Looking forward to more reviews from you in the future.

Different speakers but can you tell me can Echo Studio Speakers really output Dolby Atmos sound? I connect them to a Fire TV Stick.

What a Great channel. Thank you for your work! Learning a lot. I'd love to know your opinion on more budget Soundbars, I can't get any of these Incredible Soundbars where I live 😖🥺 keep it up!

Hi, I just order the new LG G1 Evo Tv. It doesn’t list Dolby digital plus, only say it support Dolby atmos. Does that mean mine doesn’t support Dolby digital plus? In another word, I can’t get the maximum sound out of the Sonos sound-bar ?
@JonahMatthes3 жыл бұрын
It definitely supports Dolby Digital Plus. You should be perfectly fine!
@jntaylor633 жыл бұрын
Can anyone here confirm this question. Does the ARC use its up and side firing speakers during non-atmos (aka Dolby 5.1) playback with surrounds and sub connected? Other sound bars from Sony and Samsung will do this to simulate a virtual Atmos effect. For the cost of this system, I don't want speaker drivers sitting unused when most of my movie watching will be 5.1. I want the fullest sound possible.

I am considering this but it only got one HDMI port. My tv has EArc port if I plug my PS4 and a Blu-ray Player into the tv will it return it to the sound bar thx
@JonahMatthes4 жыл бұрын
Correct. You connect the Sonos Arc to the HDMI eARC port on your TV, then connect your PS4 and Blu-ray player to the other HDMI inputs on your TV.

So if I’m currently using all 4 of my HDMI ports on my tv, this will have to replace one of those inputs since the Arc doesn’t have any HDMI inputs?

That’s correct.
