After a successful stick float session just a few days earlier, Jon Arthur returns to the same swim on the River Cherwell to see what he can catch using pole tactics. Learn how to target roach, dace and perch on small rivers using groundbait, maggots, hemp, casters and chopped worm.

Great video Jon, seeing you catching on hemp reminds me of back in the 90's when I used to catch alot of silvers on hemp even having to scale down to a 22 or 24 fine gauge hook at times just to tempt bites

Hi Jon Another exellent video bud, nice steady catch rate of probably average fish for that river, i thought it was interesting that you decided to keep cupping in the majority of your feed Thought you might have balled a couple in to see what would happen near the end, stir things a little ! A great tuition video on how to keep it tight and neat, positive results in the end a lesson in in controled feeding and sticking to your plan,really enjoyed it. Take care, Stay safe, regards to Mrs and daughter, and keep it lit.👍 my friend.

Jon were the hemp roach coming on the full depth or well off the bottom please? great video love hemp fishing but struggle to catch when i fish full depth foot or so off bottom works best for me.Another great video Jon loving your informative videos especialy natural venues but i do watch em all even the carpy ones.
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 3 жыл бұрын
They were no more than 5-6in off the deck. If I’d fished it properly with hemp I’d fully expect to catch them 1ft or more off and on a nice 0.5g strung out rig, but every says different. I once won a section on the Nene ligging on a foot overdepth with hemp and a 2-3g rig.

Hi Jon just subscribe to your channel really enjoying it thanks. On this video could you tell me what weight Olivetti you used and shorting pattens nearest river is the river Medway Kent
@superbalaur1297
@superbalaur1297 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Garry! Usually you will use an olivette that is 0.5 grams lighter than the total float capacity. Then you use the remaining 0.5 grams in lead split shot to lock the olivette and achieve the required presentation-strung out between the olivette and the hook length. Hope this is easy enough to understand…
@JonArthur
@JonArthur 3 жыл бұрын
I like to use an olivette 3/4 of the float capacity, but floats really vary and are rarely what theyve stated so a range of olivettes are needed. I like to build in 8 or so shot, three of which are droppers usually about 15cm apart and the rest locking the olivette that you can play about with.
