I have a client that I've worked with for years who is an importer of aircraft from another country and has brought a huge wealth of knowledge and a large skill set to aviation in the United States. It was one of the coolest phone calls I've ever taken at the office when he called me to tell me that he had finally been given his official US citizenship. He was so proud to officially be an American and know that he doesn't have to worry about his status as a foreign citizen. What a relief to get that permanent citizenship for your wife and it's very easy to tell from her tears of joy that she was happy to get through each step. I wish you both the best and good job pushing through the crazy regulations.

Hey Sylvia and Jonas, we are so happy for you guys, that it worked out finally. I remember the talk we had at High Sierra fly in, where Jonas told me that he is thinking about proposing to you, because he misses you so much when you are gone, and he just wants to have you by his side all the time. You are such a nice couple. Crazy all over the world the same problem, people who really want to get into a country for a good reason like wanting to work or be with the person they love, the government gives them a hard time and than on the other side they flood the countries with migrants without any background checks... One of my friends is ex army, he was invalided out in boot camp because they made him run on a broken ankle. He went to meet a friend at their office to go out for dinner and while he was waiting met a Japanese woman who was there for a couple of meetings, and then to take vacation before returning. They got on like a house on fire, to the extent that his friend left them to go to dinner. A month later she had missed her flight home, partly because she thought she was pregnant. Six months later he came to me and asked what he should do because she was going to give birth soon and didn't have medical insurance. I told him to confess all to the company and the INS. I figured the worst case he'd get to go live in Japan. Next morning he was at the INS at 6am, they handed over their ID and started to tell their story. They INS officer looked at his military ID and her passport and then took a good look at her, then asked "Did you meet while you were serving there?" and then just started filling out paperwork. He didn't even listen to the answer. Je just assumed she was another military fiancé. They left with her status secure and got married that day. Apparently the INS can be nice when they want to be.

This reminds me of our experience 22 years ago but for us it was a little different in that we were married in Colombia before she came to the US. The entire process is crazy and, at least fo us, the immigration office seemed to keep adding requirements. I might add that we only met one official that wasn't rude and obnoxious. It's infurating to see what is happening on our southern boarder. It is amazing to think those illigals will be able to vote sooner that Mrs. Marcinko!

I am so happy for you. It breaks my heart to see what you both had to go through. There have been over 1 million people enter the US illegally this year. Many (tens of thousands) have been flown in to military bases around the US. There are camps set up where they are processed and dispersed around the country. I have seen this happen. I have personally tracked the aircraft flying in and out. And too see what the government put such a wonder couple through is despicable. May God bless you both. Can't wait to see the new hanger completed.

EVERYONE should have an equal shot at coming here - that's the way our Founders designed this country. My daughter married a lovely young man from Ethiopia about 14 years ago. We investigated and found that the fiance visa is much simpler and direct. Yes, it did require waiting for him to complete the requirements to obtain the visa, but it was much quicker than marriage in Ethiopia and then immigration. The US system is so complex and opaque. And expensive! Many people have a mistaken perception that it is very simple and cheap (not sure why), but it is not. After they got married, it took several months and lots of phone calls for him to get his green card to enable him to get work (he's a pharmacist). I remember making a map of the phone tree to actually get someone to respond. Ridiculously complicated! Congratulations! And really appreciate you sharing your experience and insights to help others along this path. This is how we unite the world, one marriage at a time!

We also studied for our Green Card interview only to have it be really quick. Our interview was scheduled for 4:00pm on a Friday. When we were invited into the interview office, the person doing the interview said our interview was the last one to be done in the Portland, Oregon office before shutting it down and moving. We also had piles of documents and a photo album - this was around fifteen years ago. The officer didn't look at anything. I went through that experience in 2002 ......... We hired an attorney, and he was a naturalized Lithuanian. Super guy! Other than the process taking for what seemed like forever it was relatively painless. Those of us that went through the process legally can attest that if the same process were applied to those born in this country many would not be permitted to stay here. I was born in Canada, and even so the process was ....... thorough.

American is definitely very lucky to have a wonderful person like you as a citizen Silvia. Can’t believe how difficult the process is to become a citizen of the USA. Not sure if it’s the same to gain citizenship for the land down under. Love your story. Wishing you all the best for the future.🙏

Congratulations Jonas and Silvya on the successful result to get the green Card after such difficult times you guys had to go through. I'm one of your followers in Colombia and I'm pilot myself who enjoys very much your flying adventures. Your story touches my heart because my sister had to go through a similar process few years ago, but finally got the green card and nowadays is a US citizen. I Studied in BSU (Boise State University) so there are many common things that makes your story even more interesting to me. Keep flying, keep smiling and keep sharing your adventures. All the best, GABRIEL

That was very touching for me to see the struggle you guys went through. I went through very similar many years ago getting my wife into the country. Takes dedication and $$. Congrats! Next citizenship? Is that in the cards? No pun intended. I remember how emotional it was seeing my wife being sworn in as a citizen. Never take it for granted.
