I’m there. I just yesterday learned that the one thing I’d built upon and retained these 40+ years was only intact because my wife is so resilient and tolerant of my manipulation. I’m utterly broken down from so many years and so many failures and so many devastating explosions that strike fear in her heart that she cannot be herself-and here I’d always thought that the only good I’d ever done came from my “letting” her have her way in life to be herself-this by rational observations and analysis of all that I see, planned and tried. We sang this song at a worship service last Tuesday. Before I even knew what Abba meant it really touched me, when the pastor stepped forth to speak after the song he explained that Abba means Father. He told us that God is the type of Father you can crawl into His lap any time and not have to worry whether He's there or not. It changed my outlook on my whole relationship with God, basically turned my world upside down. When I was younger my dad decided I believe at the age of six he wasn't going to be involved completely in my life any more and now we don't have a relationship any more after him and my mom divorced. See after that I was left with a big hole, some type of void I kept trying to fill until I stumbled across your song No Longer Slaves. I kept thinking there's something missing about this; however, I can't quite put my finger on it. This song is No Longer Slaves better half, and when you put them together you get a whole message that you're a child of God and God is your papa. See my whole life I was taught that God was a gentle king, lord, creator, shepherd, savior, master, keeper, and simply God. It didn't really click on who He really is to me until last Tuesday. Melissa and Jonathan, I want to thank you a great deal for making both songs. It means a lot to myself as well as my relationship with the Lord.

Today I listened to the whole song - we were only singing the chorus. In those days, a servant was easily identified in the house, because they went without shoes. In the Hebrew Culture an elderly Father, NEVER RUNS, it would require that he expose his legs by lifting his garments to prevent falling as he ran. It is seen as an undignified act for an elderly man to Run! So our Heavenly Father risked every dignity to come running with a ring and a robe! This is where His sacrifice began for us, He risked being talked about, He risked criticism, shaming and being ostracized from fellowship with the other “Dignified” elder men in his community.
