This is such exciting music! In terms of tonality very approachable and yet clearly not backward looking. Some unmistakeable Dove "fingerprints". A really imaginative work which is overflowing with life. I wonder if there are perhaps some oblique references to Young Apollo? I've listened to this dozens of times and still absolutely love it. Bravo!

As much as I do like some of the harsher modern stuff, Dove (among others) is proof that there is definitely a way forward within more 'listenable' harmonies

Hard to add anything to the erudite comment below, but I'll give it a go. Presumably an intentional nod to Gershwin (Fascinating Rhythm) near the start? And Brahms's Wiegenlied 7 minutes in? Odd bedfellows. Yet I'm enjoying it. It sounds nothing like any other piano quintet I've ever heard, which is just as it should be. Fascinating (!) textures; so transparent; it's full of light. perhaps doesn't "add up" to much, but ... well, enjoyable. Nice one, Jonathan. And expertly played and recorded. Thanks for posting.

The interesting thing in each composer is the search. Jonathan Dove does it. It is good to dust off the series, the pitch class set, and the outdated structures of the 20th century. Attempts have been made to persuade composers that this is the only way, and I don't believe it. It is good to feel free when composing music. I am glad to know that you enjoyed this work. Thank you very much for your message, Joseph!!!
