Katee, if you still have any doubts whatsoever about your suitability for the Starbuck role, put those doubts to rest. You nailed it. Perfect 10.0. So much so, I just can't imagine, now, anybody else doing that role nearly as perfectly as you did. As to finding that one job where you feel as if you were (and continue to be) part of a family, I worked in a dozen different environments in my job in IT over 45 years, and only *once* did it feel (and continues to feel) like family. It's a rare thing, and its rarity is what makes us cherish it that much more.

At the start I'd agree. She was as much Starbuck as Dirk Benedict ever was. As the show went on though her character became unrecognisable.

@@voteDC Her character in the remake took her through a spectrum of experiences Dirk Bogarde never had to navigate. "Unrecognizable" is extreme, and the character didn't just simply, overnight "become" unrecognizable. The character had to evolve well beyond the cardboard cutout of the original series.

@@darrellhanning5068 Just like all the characters did but they all remained recognisably themselves from Felix Gaeta to Saul Tigh. Personally, I think that sometimes it is best to cast people who are the opposite of what they were playing, especially if there is an anger or darkness to them. If the actor already has those traits, I think it can sometimes be difficult to pull back from it (which is why so many of the really great villain actors are really nice and sweet people IRL). Another example of 'wtf' casting that shouldn't possibly work, but worked brilliantly is that they cast a 6'1" Canadian Musical Theater Guy to play a 5'1" Canadian ball of rage. Its a good thing that X-Men was made before the internet was big, otherwise people would have torn that movie apart for that as soon as the casting was announced.

Terry Matalas, showrunner for Picard season 3, said he was in awe when he was walking around the sets because they brought crew from TNG back to work on Picard. All these people talking about having had conversations with Gene Roddenberry. He got to direct the finale and when he was filming the final scene with the whole cast he just let the camera run after they finished all the scripted stuff. After the fade out at the end of the scene he let the camera run for about 40-45 minutes because it turned into just a group of old friends playing cards and talking about old times (and probably once they got to that part they switched to actually drinking alcohol lol). He practically begged whoever is putting together the DVD/Blu-Ray of the final season to include that entire thing in the extras because it's ike a time capsule. Jonathan Frakes and Wil Wheaton also talked about the final season on Wil's after show, how they're all, including Wil. considered the legacy cast (35 years+ and still the most popular Star Trek cast other than the originals) and how season 3 of Picard is probably the last time most of them will be involved in the franchise (Patrick Stewart is in his 80s, most of the others are in their 70s, with Levar Burton being the youngest of the "adults" of TNG in his mid 60s, and even Wil is in his early 50s). Wil had pretty much everyone from the series on his after show, including Gates McFadden, who he refers to as his "space mom". Every one of them said what Jonathan did, that it was really like a family, how rare it is in Hollywood to have that kind of relationship with castmates. When LeVar Burton, his real-life daughter Mica and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut were on, they talked about how quickly Ashlei became a 2nd daughter/sibling (including her being invited to holiday dinners), because she kind of just fell into that child/sibling role off-camera as they were doing the show

I recall watching Farpoint for the first time in 88, I think, in Brazil, I was a little kid, and the story caught me in the first minutes. I was enjoying the show, I understood it was Star Trek, but something was different, the ship, the special effects, where is Kirk, but then the Opening of the series and the tittle Next Generation, somehow in Brazilian Portuguese it was like they translated as “New Generation”, and then I understood that this was a new show that I remember loving it since day 1.

The reason these cast members bonded is because their shows had more episodes per season. Sometimes as high as 24 episodes a season. These cast members spent a long time together working. Today's shows have around maybe 10 episodes a season. Sometimes 8 episodes. Maybe even as low 6 episodes in some cases. That's not enough time in the trenches for cast members to bond. Not to mention in the case of Star Trek Discovery, most the writing focused just on 1 or 2 characters. The rest of the cast was ignored. Heck, some cast members quit between seasons during Discovery and they had find replacements. Hard to bond when 3 or 4 of your cast members have left the show between seasons Battlestar Galactica was absolutely GREAT at giving everyone a chance to shine. Everyone had a 1 or 2 episodes each season to show off their character. .

This is a very important interview and conversation. Why? Because you can’t just gather a group of actors (no matter how good they are) and expect the spark to be there for them to become family and thus have a hit show, or movie. Case and point? Eric Stolz in Back to The Future. Most of the movie was shot with him, and he’s a great actor, but the spark just wasn’t there between him and the other actors.
