Both happy & sad for Jonathan with this one. Like the truly magically *loyal scribe* that he is, he gave the psychiatrist his own, much needed, therapy session. However, Jonathan once again couldn’t shake off the burdensome mantle of “loyal scribe,” even to see to his own mental health care.

Honestly, this whole storyline is so accurate it hurts. The give-and-take of the professional relationship has been replaced with a Kafkaesque cycle of give-and-give-and-give-and-give for the scribe. Even a therapy session "for Jonathan" is made about somebody else, who somehow still believes that he's the one doing Jonathan a favor. As an ophthalmologist's work-up tech, I can say the whole team does so much dedicated work for none of the credit from administration (and $30,000 a year). We're constantly talking about a strike which never seems to happen, as spirits break and become the task machines they're forced to be.

This is so dark😂 Jonathan is so loyal to the practice of medicine that he can't help but improve the lives of every doctor he interacts with. Even when he's seeking help, he ends up helping someone else. He's become a permanent giver; he can never take-not even 1 therapy session for himself. And the poor therapist! That man is so close to the edge that all it took was 1 sympathetic ear before he completely broke down and starred telling Jonathan his whole life story. These people are not okay

@@jenniferryersejones9876 that's what I was wondering too. I was wondering if Jonathan had a block of free time and that the intention of helping the psychiatrist was on Jonathan's mental to do list / in his sights. (Possibly because the psychiatrist was among or maybe the only person in the hospital Jonathan hadn't helped yet). So from the very beginning, Jonathan wasn't there for therapy for himself but to administer therapy for the psychiatrist!

This former student wrote something along the lines of "As a nurse, it is the ego that keeps me in the hospital with immaculate scrubs, an empty stomach, and an unwavering smile as patients present with the most disgusting and asinine complaints imaginable. However, it is the id that gets through it all by fantasizing of throwing off my PPE, running away, and being found rolling naked in a vat of fudge with no charge nurse to shame me for eating." He shared the name of the student who wrote that answer. It was my dad 25 years prior. I haven't eaten fudge since.

My pharmacy team are incredible people who take such good care of me, even when other medical places not-really-joke "Wow that's a lot of medications" when I produce my helpful checklist on my phone or list them off. They not only know why I'm taking each one and how they fit into my overall care, they've had huge amounts of patience when I have questions and concerns. They work with my doc office and my doc when it comes to putting together stuff, looking at new treatments, and calling me if they haven't heard from me in a while to make sure I didn't fall off the ADD executive function train. (Among other things, but mostly it's just trying to wrangle brainweasels for long enough to do really simple things I do every month but still struggle with augh). Basically, for the last 8 years they've been in my corner for help, kindness, my own personal cheerleading section on some goals, and I'm so utterly grateful to them. I tell them this when I can, in cards and coffee, but they make one of the biggest differences in my life. Thank YOU for having been that for people, thank you for taking care of yourself now even though it really sucks, and I hope that you have people like that for you, too. If I had to fight to get my meds filled as I have other places and times, I don't think they would get filled at all or ever again. They make me really feel like I matter -- no, they make me BELIEVE it, and they matter to me, fiercely.

Best. Therapy. Visit. Ever. Because obviously, when Jonathan goes to therapy, the psychiatrist is the one who benefits. *swoon* I had to catch myself to remember that he's a character. He's so much MORE! Doc Glauc, you're awesome, but JONATHAN, now, he's a keeper!

OMG, this was brilliant! Jonathan's expression right after "the hardest thing to scribe is what's in your heart" was hearbreaking. And I thought you deserved an Oscar for 2022! Is any one in this group a member of the Academy? Sometimes when you go to therapy doesn't mean you get therapy. As always, Jonathan knew what he was doing.

I find with comedy usually the point is shown by the things you don't expect of the characters. The one unexpected part of this was Johnathan's expression at the end. One of the major points of consistency is that he is inexpressive and having him express complexly at the word loyal gives us even the tiniest glimpse into his mind, which is ostensibly what the therapist would be trying to do. We the audience have succeeded where the therapist has failed, and the mystery we've learned is that Johnathan has a more complex relationship with the concept of loyalty than we had previously assumed and than he had been leading on. For the first time, text, real English words came out of Johnathan and they are him questioning his loyalty, to say his character's entire raison d'etre

Meanwhile the IT staff are just working away in the background shuffling around monitors, removing PC's, unplugging cables just to mess with people and make them think they're crazy when they call and we ask almost knowingly "Did you check to see if all the power cords are plugged in?" You all think Jonathan is quiet and moves quickly? Ask the IT Staff to come in during nonstandard business hours.
