Jonathan Isaac is a 26-year-old forward who has battled injuries throughout his career, but who is undeniably one of the NBA's most impactful defenders when he plays.
Isaac has only played about 15 minutes per game this season; Orlando uses him like a specialist off the bench. It's almost like they're saving him, ensuring he's able to play in the playoffs this season. The Magic can play him at forward or at center, and sic him on the opposing team's best scorer. Expect him to make his presence felt in the first round this postseason.
This man is listed at 6'10, but he certainly looks like a seven-footer on the floor. He's an elite rim protector who can lock down the league's premier scorers on the perimeter. He has high off-ball awareness. When he guards quicker, smaller players and they get a step on him, he always seems to recover. There's really nothing he can't do on defense. He's a Doomsday weapon.
Isaac is leading the NBA in Defensive EPM this season at +4.4. He's likely the best per possession defender in the world right now. It's a beautiful thing to see him healthy and thriving in his role on this spunky young Magic team. Enjoy the film.
