I remember grocery shopping with my mother once when I was six. There, I saw my 2nd grade teacher and was fascinated to learn that she shopped for groceries too. I had a similar kind of feeling seeing Jonathan's legs. It was very reassuring to learn that he has legs also.

Great as usual, Jonathan! You wrote in the description that this video was filmed in 2023. So this is factual proof that you can travel in time... That's interesting! I have always suspected that you are from the future! :-)

There are many talented jazz guitarists around, I would rather drop a heavy object on my foot, than listen to most of them. Kreisberg is different, it's not just great skills and vocabulary, it's great tone and wonderful stories, beautifully told. . . . . . .

I feel similarly about this with Kreisberg and Julian Lage. Both have great vocabularly and technicality but what makes them stand out is how they use it to form a melodic storyline in thier solos. Lyricism.

I have a question for you as a clearly talented, established jazz musician. Take the opening bar of the chord progression you play as an example - the 1-3-4-6: There’s just something striking about it that I can’t explain, the way you add the chromatic leading tones, etc. I’ve noticed that about CERTAIN tunes, Someday My Prince Will Come being one of them - among others such as Over The Rainbow as well as jazz jazz tunes like All The Things You Are. Is there a principle out there in music theory that explains this “oh my god”-ness of these certain melodies/chord progressions? Because as a perennial “dabbler” who’s finally looking to dive hard into my music, my ultimate dream is to be able to understand - and create - progressions like that, but so far the basic theory concepts haven’t explained why certain melodies have that striking magic to them while others don’t. I’ve heard vague concepts like “tension” etc but if there is some word out there that could explain the musical emotional quality of certain tunes I’d love to hear it so I can guide my learning toward my goal. Perhaps my question is impossible to answer, as it’s referring to creativity, like why is Einstein still a genius even if you study physics…

Johnathan what amp are you using? I like the full richness, but thankfully have a different playing style than you. I have this terrible fear of being a copycat. I own an EVH 5150 iii 50 watt though a 212, but not sure if does Jazz. You’re probably thinking it’s a rock amp which is true, but I happen to love jazz as well. Should I keep my current amp and just tweak the settings for Jazz? I would really love to hear your opinion. Thank you 🙏.
@tomashguitar638
@tomashguitar638 6 ай бұрын
It’s a Deluxe Reverb I’d say. I have other amps, Supers etc. but for guitar-straight-to-amp clean tone there aren’t too many better amps out there. IMHO 5150 is too much of an amp for jazz, it starts working at a point where it’s too loud for jazz setting. Since this has gone without reply for a year, my humble advice is to start with bass and treble at minimum and work the eq from there.
