Kuminga has had to learn the most complex system in the NBA as a teenager and is 21. He literally just got the starting job halfway through last year somehow despite showing high level flashes for a while. He has stretches where he's fabulous, and he has stretches where he's not so good. Remember, before his time with the warriors, Andrew Wiggins was literally by the numbers one of the worst defenders in the league. Like, the difference between an Andrew Wiggins contest and an open shot were like two percentage points. Wiggins got up to speed and became one of the best perimeter defenders in the world around 2022. Kuminga is going to be good defensively. He's already gotten much better at making reads on the break and in drive and kick looks. The warriors run a switch heavy scheme that forces players to adapt to different assignments frequently. It's not an easy thing to learn for a player who is also having his offensive role grow. We saw the offensive side of the game really start to slow down for him in the second half of the year, where Kuminga looked much more confident and in control with the ball one one in the half court. The defense will come. He's a kid. He'll be fine

For his age and the amount of playing time he got in his first 2 seasons, idk why so many people(mainly warriors fans) talk so bad about him. He’s going to be one of the best young guys in the league

He’s also doing thinngs he sees the vets (Steph, Klay, Wiggins, even Draymond sometimes) for but then he’s the only one getting chewed out or benched for it. If we wanna be real a lot of the things Kuminga struggled with defensively last year, a lot of players on the Warriors struggled with

Then why is it every team in the NBA is chasing to trade for him? Kerr and the core are now the issue at GSW, they are old and aren't as good as they used to. Very few defensive mistakes are Kuminga's, it's usually the core needing help, fouling unnecessarily, slow, tired or being outsized. Moreover JK is consistent, you know what you're going to get.
@fordanaeuxx
@fordanaeuxx 5 ай бұрын
He has the potential. No one says he can’t play d but he it hasn’t clicked for him defensively yet. Why should we do this why don’t we do this. You’re right that the core is old or tired. They’ve earned being able to switch off at times. They’ve got old legs. You’re the young player. Show us the want it factor cuz u know the vets can turn it on when they have to just that they need to save their energy. Young guys need to play with the energy and want. Dejounte Murray said it best. Play defense to stay on the floor.
@josephmakara4006
@josephmakara4006 5 ай бұрын
@@fordanaeuxx he's already a top 2 way player. His defensive assignments rarely cause problems in matchups, and usually he's guarding one of the best from the opposing team. Problem is overhelping because of Kerr's addiction to small guards, they constantly need help and to switch away from their own defensive assignments. Teams shoot 3s at a higher percentage against gsw because the core players don't close out with energy nor length!First half of the season when JK was on the bench, gsw bench was one of the best in the league. He moved into first team and they actually improved! He is the least problem at GSW, defensive or offensive wise. Even when you consider consistency and reliability, he's the least problem.

He has an opportunity to show his value and potentially score up 25 points a game for this upcoming season and take that defense seriously. On both sides of the ball and on every play displaying the will to win then he may be able to do what he can for himself. At 30 plus minutes a night. He can be a big threat. He can drive like a beast and potentially at best can be another version of the Greek Freak but with a nice mid-range jumper and some good iso game.

I think people also need to understand a lot of development in defense with young athletic guys is assignments. Coaches have to put these types of guys in positions to be good defenders. As a warrior fan too often Kerr gives JK the guard assignments and makes him press full court. That’s not the type of player he is. He needs to be put on non shooters to roam cause he’s an athletic freak with good instincts in the help side.

Then why is he always guarding the best or second player in the opposition team? He can block and get a steal. He just steal the ball twice from Luka. He didnt let Tatum shoot 3 which led to overtime and he got a steal from Tatum then he turned into offense which gave Warriors their lead.

They aren't lying at all. But he's still young and didn't pick up the game super young either. He's shown flashes of elite perimeter defence. But he can get too aggressive and often relies on his athleticism to make up for poor positioning. And yes he often ball watches when off the ball. To the teams detriment though there have been many Vets committing just as many sins and not being held to account.

I think a lot of this has to do with the concepts of not being trained enough. He has tremendous upside in terms of his athleticism, but with a lot of people like him, you have to work through what I think is a family where he has been built up people telling them how great and he is that he has to click and realize that he has to practice in the right way. He has to think the game of basketball rather than go down the Russell Westbrook physical the basketball game They have to figure out to put around him someone that can give him the right encouragement, the right accountability structure in order to have a click for him That being said, if the Warriors weren’t so stubborn and trying to play through Steph Curry, who I don’t think as awesome as he is that the league has caught up with that style,… For instance, if Comingo played against that plan team versus the Lakers, he by himself, would’ve won the game. Das the economy of the man. If you allowing him to play his way, for a night or two, he would destroy the other team by himself. And this may have something to do with how the Warriors are grooming their players. Jordan Poole was very effective at that second switch when he was with the Warriors other teams did not train him to be the lead so as good as he was within the warrior system, he was as horrible with the Washington Bullets/wizards. That’s the problem with Kim. He’s one of those players that likely have to build around him rather than try to Steve Kerr middle where you have commit to him and you have rely on him.

He can’t play, this is kinda what Gil was saying when he said Giannis didn’t know the game, basketball is kinda foreign for Africans, at first they do have to learn certain things that come with the game (Hakeem anomaly, Giannis there now) Most of them start late and figure out later fr.

This is so cap. While i will say he can make mistakes I think it’s more so attributed to how the system is run and honestly some of the dumb ass schemes the run instead of simplifying it. And that’s for everyone. Especially w/ the core at an advanced age. You have to adapt. He also got a late start in even playing the game but I literally have seen his decision making grow as the season progressed. I saw him make smarter reads and not just barrel through the lane. I think his biggest issue is he needs to be confident in those reads and if he makes mistakes play through them. Which is more on Kerr than anything for not instilling that within him. I love the dubs but we all knew they weren’t winning shit these last few season and that would’ve been perfect to get him up to speed. Kerr is a terrible development coach. JK is a star and he just needs the proper opportunity and guidance.
