This is a true picture of the Zimbabwean politics. Thanks you Prof for narrating the face of opposition, we need organized opposition politics in Zimbabwe.
@normadhlodhlo82974 ай бұрын
This is not true. Listen to ZPF politicians like Muchinguri, Munangagwa who swear that ZPF will not lose the presidency through elections. If opposition was unorganized, why wld ZPF ban NC frm holding rallies? Why wld they bribe Mwonzora & Tshabangu to infiltrate opposition, steal seats and pass on to ZPF? I’m sure by now u’ve heard Tshabangu proudly tell the world what he did. Zbweans are not fools. They see it all
@normanmunyedza2105 Жыл бұрын
The fact that opposition leaders in Zim go overseas to castigate the country are not true. Opposition politicians in Zim find it very hard to hold a political rally because they are prohibited to do so whenever they seek police clearance, this does not happen in other sadc countries.

Professor Jonathan Moyo's statement about Zimbabwe lacking a solid opposition party to challenge the ruling party is a matter of political opinion. While it is true that Zimbabwe has experienced challenges in developing a strong and unified opposition, it is important to recognize that the political landscape is complex and subject to various factors. Zimbabwe has a history of political polarization and a legacy of authoritarian rule, which has affected the development of opposition parties. The ruling party, ZANU-PF, has been in power since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, and it has employed various tactics to maintain its dominance. These include repression of dissent, restrictions on political freedoms, and manipulation of electoral processes. The opposition in Zimbabwe has faced numerous hurdles, including internal divisions, lack of resources, and intimidation from the ruling party. These factors have contributed to the fragmentation of the opposition movement, making it difficult for a single party to emerge as a formidable challenger to ZANU-PF. However, it is worth noting that Zimbabwe's political landscape is dynamic, and there have been efforts to form coalitions and alliances among opposition parties to strengthen their collective influence. The formation of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in the late 1990s was a significant development, and it has remained one of the most prominent opposition parties in the country. Regarding Professor Jonathan Moyo's defense of the Patriotic Bill put forward by Zimbabwe, it is essential to consider the context and implications of such legislation. The Patriotic Bill, as proposed by the government, seeks to promote national loyalty and patriotism. However, critics argue that it could potentially be used to stifle dissent and curtail freedom of speech and expression. In any democratic society, it is crucial to strike a balance between promoting patriotism and preserving individual rights and freedoms. While fostering a sense of national pride and unity is important, it should not come at the expense of suppressing legitimate criticism and differing political views. It is necessary to have open discussions and debates about proposed legislation, such as the Patriotic Bill, to ensure that it upholds democratic principles and respects fundamental human rights. It is the responsibility of scholars, policymakers, and civil society organizations to critically analyze such bills and ensure that they align with internationally recognized standards of human rights and democratic governance. In conclusion, the lack of a solid opposition party in Zimbabwe is a complex issue influenced by historical and political factors. While efforts have been made to form coalitions and challenge the ruling party's dominance, the opposition faces significant challenges. As for the Patriotic Bill, it is essential to ensure that any legislation aimed at promoting patriotism does not undermine democratic principles or restrict fundamental rights and freedoms. Open and inclusive discussions are necessary to strike the right balance between national unity and individual liberties.

By the way, what is more injurious to a country's sovereignty than looting its resources at the level that the ruling elite and their connections do? For the people of Zimbabwe, what is sovereignty in a situation where hospitals do not have panado for a head ache? How much help did ZANU and ZAPU receive from the international community? How does an opposition go to communities, the rural for example, where doing so is criminalised and the opposition brutalised? Our eyes see and we don't have short memories as Zimbabweans.

@normadhlodhlo82974 ай бұрын
While I appreciate some of prof M’s contributions, he completely missed the point about opposition when he refers to them as week. By now, I believe he has realized that CCC beat ZPF just as MDC beat ZPF in 2008. Literally, Munangagwa has never won an election. Prof shld not ignore the fact that ZPF’s objective to crash opposition since 1980. ZAPU was the first to go under the hammer to the extent ZPF staged a genocide which is what caused fear among Zbweans. That’s what ZPF wants for them to practice their dictatorship. They unleashed atrocities in 2008 after Tsvangirai beat Mugabe & promised war if Mugabe had to leave the presidency. What does prof call that? Prof knows ZPF has spoken openly that they will not leave the presidency. On this, prof Moyo is not being truthful. ZPF was financed by the British during the war against the Rhodesia Front bcs the RF had declared UDI against the Brits. Prof Moyo literally avoids touching ZPF.

Jonathan is trouble and a big hypocrite. Moyo go home and face the music.Why on earth Jonathan write about how Zimbabwe elections are rigged?
