Wow, your Nightfall is just stunning. It will be epic when done and you will love wearing it. I made Joji’s Elton in single stranded black fingering merino hand dyed striped with single stranded black mohair -I had to knit only in the morning in good natural light, so it sat by my favourite chair overlooking my river view and I knit 30” per day almost every day- it took months, but I love it and a fingering weight sweater is so useful. Love all your knits and great colour choices. Enjoy your vacation. Happy holiday knitting.

So glad I watched older episodes today while having lunch! My dad wants a sweater in the same colors I used for the Slipstravaganza I knit and gave my mom (black / mid-gray / super light gray / hot pink). Been looking for the perfect pattern and Nightfall is it!

Hi Johnathan , your makes are outstanding as usual. I have a neck flashlight that helps me see when I am working with dark yarns. It’s basically two small flashlights (torches) that are fixed on a bendable cable. You place it around your neck and aim the light beam at your work. It’s a must for me when the light is lacking… keep knitting your videos are a joy to watch!

My epic project for the year is also a blanket - I'm doing Stephen West's Slipstravaganza Blanket - the largest size which ends up at 86.5 inches/220 centimeters - I did a spreadsheet that tallied up the total stitch count and divided over 366 days - so I'm doing 537-538 stitches a day which is totally doable. It will go on my guest bed when done. There's something that feels really fun about having these small bites to do every day that you know will lead to such a great result!

Always happy to see a new podcast from you I enjoy them so much. What a masterpiece the nightfall sweater is. It looks stunning.😍 The blanket is going too be an interesting project to follow through the year, a yarn album to watch and remember. Love the thoughtful words about love the craft for what it is and not to rush just to have the piece finished but to enjoy the process of it. Currently working on a hat in some scrap yarn. You can never ha too many hats if you live in the north of Sweden. We have had som really cold weather almost minus 40 c as coldest this winter. Today its just minus 23. I'm thinking of frogging a project and turn it into a pair of knitted leggings. But first I need to finish some other wips.

I always enjoy your podcasts and loved that you mentioned your 23 round up. After watching yours, while watching other round up videos I found myself wondering which category /grade they would give their knits if they did it in your style...super high standard and so fun to watch. I also love the painting on your wall and how sometimes your knits match it. Like the more colourful of the two gloves matches it quite well.

Another great video. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into making these videos for us! I love the Nightfall sweater and the Satellite Shawl. That shawl and the Blanket may need to hop onto my needles at some point! Right now I'm starting the Knitorius RBG Sweater to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg and I'm well into the For Keeps Cardigan by Samantha Guerin. Both knit mostly with stash yarn. Feeling very proud of myself. I just finished the After Midnight Mitts by Baby Cocktails made with yarn leftover from my Oslo sweater. And I'm going to knit another pair with yarn left over from my Iceberg Sweater - both sweaters completed very recently. The year is off to a great start! Have a wonderful time in the sun!

Good Morning, Jonathan….I finished my Sweet Shop Blanket since I commented last time. It was the most fun project, truly. Mine fit my grandson’s twin bed and took 77 squares to fit the top with a square overhang on both sides. I absolutely loved this podcast…so much to see and learn about. I’ve watched every one of your podcasts from the very beginning, but couldn’t remember if you had ever made the Vertices Unite by Stephen West. I’ve made one, and have been seeing them all over the Internet lately again. I was thinking of making another one but after seeing your Satellite Shawl by Andrea Mowry, I think I’ll make it instead. You have definitely inspired me to try things that intimidate me like the Brioche stitch (Satellite). I will probably make another Sweet Shop Blanket using the cone yarn for the main color, as well….pacing myself for a year. I’m excited to put all these ideas into action. Thank you so much for the wonderful podcast…my head is spinning with excitement after watching your show and tell….Until next time….🤗❤️🙋 Sue

Jonathan, your Nightfall sweater is a magnum opus! Beautifully knit...congrats! Cannot wait to see you model it for all of us. I am on the threshold of knitting Marie Wallin's "Primrose" sweater, which is allover color work. First, however, I have decided to knit a pair of color work socks inside out to see if, as many experienced Fair Isle knitters have said, this helps even out one's tension. And it does! Going forward, I will always knit color work inside out. Just wanted to pass this tip along to others. 🙂

Loving your enthusiasm for all things knitted. For your colourwork I would recommend watching a Technique Tuesday podcast by Roxanne Richardson from about 2 years ago on blocking stranded colorwork that uses a wooden spoon. First time I saw it, I admit I thought it was a bit bonkers but having tried it I can attest to the wonders of the practice.

For the wee tension change in the sleeves, consider blocking by pushing a plastic bottle down that part. Just need 2 bottles of the right circumference, taking your tape measure to Tesco might be embarrassing!
@Stettafire
@Stettafire 5 ай бұрын
21:21 I hate to say it, but blocking won't fix tight floats. Tight or loose stitches yes, but tight floats where you gfet that puckering are kinda there own game. Really, the best way to fix those guys is to reknit that section and conciously make an effort to loosen up the floats as you knit. Having floats too loose is a much less bigger deal then tight floats. Unfortunately, blocking does not fix tight floats, dispite claims from the internet. Cus tight floats pull the entire work inward. This isn't a criticism of yourself, just trying to clear up a common misconception I see online. Yes, you can get lovely fair isle that's nice and flat with no puckering. But it takes conciously managing your floats. Many people online are under the assumption that all fair isle puckers, which is simply not the case. The problem is fixible, but it usually is not fixed via blocking. Blocking will help with stitches that are slightly too loose or tight, but not the floats, which is why many people online find themselves dissapointed with their fair isle puckering.

Your calculations with your shawl where not wrong, decreasing takes more yarn then increasing, yeah, really!
@Stettafire
@Stettafire 5 ай бұрын
This is exactly correct. Also, since humans aren't machines it's highly unlikely to have two sides of a work use the exact same weight of wool anyway. A person's tension will always vary slightly, a neat and tidy knitter won't vary enough for it to be visible to the naked eye, but the variation is still there regardless, and that effect over a larger area will cause wool usage to increase or decrease. That's often why re-knitting an item will use slightly less or more wool. The tension difference might not be visible, but it's still there.
