Not a coffee drinker, but at work I have a strategy of “I cannot have a pop until I finish my healthy drink”. For a few months it was water, but it has since evolved into protein shakes, which also helps me fight the urge to get a donut for breakfast because the shake is really filling on its own. And keeps me pretty satisfied until lunch, maybe needing just a snack before then to hold me over a bit longer

I am not a doctor, but here are my drinking water tips/stuff that helps me: 1) Make sure you are having enough sodium. You seem athletic, and sodium is lost through sweat and exercise. You may not be having enough because of this. (and there is controversy over the current recommended daily sodium intake being too low for healthy adults, so I would look into that too) Additionally, when you increase your water intake you should also increase your sodium intake. (barring any health issues) I find if I am not thirsty for whatever reason, having a small pinch of salt helps motivate me to drink water. 2) Force your self to carry a water bottle ALL THE TIME. Every time you have to pick it up, take a sip. Even it is to walk across the office, you should pick it up and sip it. For me, this means the more I drink the less heavy my water bottle is. In other words, the lazier I want to be the more I drink water :) 3) Set water goals using time. i.e by 12:00 I will have drank 1 litre of water. By 4:00 I will have drank another litre. By 8:00, another one. I find this method works best for me because I can see if I am maintaining my hydration by seeing if I have met my time goals. You can always change the amount of water and the timing too, I just personally need to drink 3-3 1/2 litres of water daily and find similar time goals helpful. Hope this helps J, -Lydia

JUST GONNA PUT IT OUT THERE: drinking a lot of water at once won't be as effective as drinking little bits consistently over a long period of time. Your body can't absorbe it all fast enough when you chug a whole glass after being really thirsty, so you just end up peeing a lot. Caffine actually DOES dehydrate you tho J
@bigbadboy20015 жыл бұрын
What you want to do is not increase the amount of water you drink but maintain it to a set quantity per day depending on your profession. I am a chef and work in a very hot kitchen and during summer I would drink about 8 litres of water per day. This is the worst thing to do, as I found out that I was drinking a lot of water but also dehydrating myself at the same time. An important fact about drinking water is drinking a bottled/filtered water which has a higher pH level (alkaline values between 7,8 and 9,4) are the best to drink as you quench your thirst and never dehydrate yourself. The reason I was drinking so much water was that it had a pH value of 5,8 (acidic pH) which is extremely bad for your body as you lose a huge quantity of sugars, salts and minerals when you urinate, things which your body needs to metabolise into energy. Also, if you drink too much water, your body will think that you will be without water for a longer time resulting in water retention and a constant bloated feeling. SO... Drinking about 2 litres (about 8 cups) of pH Alkaline water (7,8 to 9,4 pH) should be sufficient per day, then add another cup for every soft drink and coffee you consume daily. I lost 15kg just by changing my water habits and I now drink about 3 litres of water daily, cause I drink 2 expressos which means I drink another 2 cups of water to help dilute the caffeine better. Hope this helps...

Tips for drinking more water: 1. a straw definitely helps- it makes drinking easier, 2. finding a good water container to drink out of is good (I prefer something smaller because even though I have to fill it more frequently, I’m also more likely to pick it up), 3. you could also try adding flavouring to it if you don’t like plain water- example: lemons, mint, cucumber.
@argella13005 жыл бұрын
Couple ways to drink more water: 1. Set reminders on your phone. If you have a smart watch, even better, use that 2. Drink it out of a cup with a straw. Get one of those giant 20 or 30 oz. Starbucks cold drink cups. 3. Add flavor! Personally, I like lemons and cucumbers, but my mom likes grapefruit flavored seltzer 4. Seltzer. My mom drinks a lot of seltzer, and we got her a soda stream for Christmas two years ago, she uses is pretty much daily. She also bought some organic fruit flavorings that she uses to flavor it

Firstly, Scott is such a mood For water! You can try getting a large, 2l bottle and just make sure you finish it by the end of the day. Or, having a nice bottle really does help, especially if it's a particularly meaningful design. Or, which really helped for me, there's an app for that! I used a water drinking app called Plant Nanny. You have a virtual plant, and you have to keep it alive by periodically watering it. Every time you drink a glass of water, feed the plant! The app will also give you notifications. Not sponsored lol, and I'm sure there are loads of other apps for water. That one in particular gave you the option to unlock different plant types based on how many plants you've successfully kept alive, encouraging you to maintain the habit! Yes, 8 glasses/2 litres is a relatively arbitrary number. But as a psychology graduate, I can't stress the important of drinking water enough. Regular Water, Sun and Sleep- my golden trio for staying healthy (including mental health). Good luck on your water journey!

My trick to drink more water is to just have water around. I’m a stay-at-home mom of two and often forget I NEED to drink, or when I’m thirsty I’m just not able to go to the kitchen and get water because I’m wrapped up with the kids. So I always have a glass of water ready on the kitchen counter so I‘ll see it every time I go into the kitchen and take a few mouthfuls, and refill it whenever I get a chance. I used to keep a bottle in the living room as well but the toddler tries to get into it too much now. Also, when I get an entire minute or two to myself (the luxury!) I force myself to drink at least half a glass of water because I know my body needs it.

I work outside so I constantly need to be hydrated, and there issue for many in office spaces is the fact that you aren't exerting yourself a lot to FEEL thirsty. So honestly your plan to just drink on schedule is good for you as drinking when you're thirsty is not sufficient, but soon your body will grow use to it and you'll feel the need for that water.

I keep glass water bottles with silicone straws in EVERYWHERE. I always have one on me. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and breastfed my first child for 16 months. I was/am constantly having to find ways to drink more fluids but also never feel thirsty. Maybe investing in glass water bottles (Optional straws) for the office would help everyone drink more. Set a bunch up in the fridge and you can all grab them as easily as the store-brought ones. Sure, you'd need to clean the empty ones at the end of the day and fill them up again, but it's easy enough to do and better for the planet. :)

Three words: 1. Ice 2. Insulated cup Because ice cold water is delicious, and room temperature water is yucky. So get an ice machine for the office and put it next to the water cooler. Admittedly, it will not be up to Ben's exacting ice standards, but he's already drinking enough water so he doesn't count.

J probably won't see this but! I have a tip. If you like drinking coffee, drink your water in a cup, not a glass. There's something about holding a cup that hits different. Also, you probably already know this but keep the cup close to you and ALWAYS with water. Every time that I leave my workspace I take the cup with me to refill it on my way back. You'll feel more thirsty eventually, until you NEED to have water need you.

I used to drink a glass of actual water every other day or so. (The tap water in my town tastes TERRIBLE) Then my mother in law bought us a Berkey water filter and, oh my goodness, water suddenly wasn’t so bad any more! Now I keep a glass water bottle at my desk at all times. My advice: 1.) make sure your water tastes good (add lemon or cucumbers if you like) 2.) Find a water bottle to be your desk buddy. It will help. Just like chocolate after a dementor encounter.

Another idea to drink more water- get an infusion bottle. You can then put fruit inside the infusion chamber (e.g. cut up lemon or strawberries or cucumber or mint) and then that with infuse with the water making the water taste good and make you want to drink it more. I have one and in the summer I love to fill put cut up lemons inside and of course it makes the water taste of lemons.

If you force yourself to start the day by drinking a glass of day before you get to check your phone, drink coffee, eat, or do anything else that's not absolutely necessary (ie-going to the bathroom, checking on Luke, but not playing with him because that's too much fun). A lot of people find that they drink more water throughout the day if they start the day drinking water. Also, before you go to sleep, put a glass or bottle of water next to your bed so you don't even have to get up to get the water. tea without caffeine, watermelon, cucumber, etc is a good way to get extra water in.

One thing to watch out for is if you have dry mouth. I have a syndrome that’s basically like dry mouth on steroids (and dry eyes etc), and I always feel somewhat thirsty, so I don’t connect it to being dehydrated, because whether I am or not, it feels the same. So I was chronically dehydrated for years until I figured it out that I needed to not focus on feeling thirsty or not. The best feedback is pee color. If you can get it routinely very pale yellow (totally clear is a bit too hydrated), or slightly darker after you wake up in the morning, that’s the realm to be in, and the best indication of how hydrated you are. Signs of dehydration are pretty easy to pick out, especially when it’s severe, but signs of hydration are harder to pin down.

I'm not a professional by any sense of the word but I've been told a good goal is to drink about 70% of your body weight in water a day. For example, if someone weighs 200lbs, they should aim for 140oz of water a day. I personally try to drink a cup or two every hour or so, but I also drink 14 cups a day and have a rigid hourly break schedule at work where I can always go get a drink. Structuring drinking water into my day like that made it a lot easier for me to form a habit. I also use an app called Plant Nanny to track my water. Every time I input the water I drink, it waters a plant. If I don't drink enough water, the plant will wilt and eventually die. Really encourages me cos I get attached to little cartoon plants, lol

I struggle with this more in the winter than the summer but find that starting with a full bottle first thing in the morning gets me started off right. I also found that keeping my bottle on my right side at my desk (I'm right handed) helps make it easier to drink often. Additionally I do the x number of sips rule - every time I take a drink I count to 5/7/10... whatever number feels right and try to at least finish one bottle with every meal through the day and one before I leave the gym.

I only drink water. Except when we go out for dinner or something, then I might have 1 soda or something but after that, back to water. I just cary a refillable water bottle(I've got one from Contigo, where you press a button and a 'straw' pops out so you can drink without lifting the bottle up like you would do with a mug or glass. And afterwards you just click the straw back in so nothing can fall/crawl/... into your water.) It works best for me. When it's in my sight, I regularly just take a sip. Especially during winter, it is hard to keep up the amount of water I drink, but having a refillable water bottle or a tumbler does help for me. Also: I'm like Beth, I can wake up in the middle of the night being extremely thirsty so I have to get up and get some water to drink. My daughter has the same thing :p

Water when eating out is an easy way to make sure I drink more water (and save money). Living in TX, I'm much more concerned about how much water I'm getting from about April to October than any other time and even more so from May through August. Another tip of drinking more water- see if your local Walmart has some squash bottles. In uk we have squash (a sort of concentrated juice). You add a tiny bit to water and it makes the water flavoured. But you only need a really small amount so it’s not overly sugary. You should be able to find it in the British isle or in the isle where you find the cool ade if your store has it. If you can find some it’ll make your water taste nice and taste like you are drinking juice rather than water. Even better if you an get the sugar free ones.

This works for me, mark your water bottle with a marker or something. I have to drink this much per hour, by the hour. If I haven't drank that much yet, I've got to now down two marks worth of water in that hour. Depending on how much you want to drink per day, you might make your marks bigger or smaller. Or, set reminders to drink some water on your phone or something, if you feel like you'll forget. I've also found that flavoring water with lemons or oranges (like seltzer) will make water more appealing to drink if it is the flavor.

For most folks, the equivalent of 4-6 glasses of water is a good daily number... the key being "equivalent," so things like flavored liquids, watermelon, etc. do indeed count. (Sugary sodas are NOT helpful, and diet sodas aren't much better. I've heard that a good rule of thumb is that hydration increases as fizz decreases, but I'm still researching that.) Beware diuretics (e.g., coffee) but if you don't actually have to pee after consuming them then they count. A good baseline for low-level exercise is any activity that will raise your heart rate & maintain it at a higher rate 15-30 minutes every day -- keeping in mind that one's heart racing wildly is a sign of overexertion, and that's not really a good thing. Also, tell Beth to check out some of the products from Contigo (disclosure: my ONLY connection with that company is being a satisfied customer).

My job is quite physically demanding, so I keep a bottle with me all the time, but I think you could consider doing that in an office as well. I like to keep a 750ml bottle with a straw lid, cause then I remove the hassle of having to unscrew and replace the cap anytime I want to drink, and 750 ml is a pretty good size. I feel like 500 is too small, it would empty too fast, and 1 litre is too large to carry with me. I work 4 hour shifts with 20 min break in the middle, and on a slow day 750 ml will be enough for the entire day, on heavier days I will empty one bottle on each side of break.

My friend has a blue water bottle with the little logo dude thing on it (Beth seems to like those). She calls it Stitch and she is very protective of it.

I used to always have Powerade zero or Gatorade zero on hand for my hydration needs, because I also get heat sick. But that got expensive so I just buy a bunch of water enhancers (a little container of light flavoring) and keep one of my old Powerade bottles which are fairly big and a straw. straws make it so much easier. I find that the water enhancers make me want to drink water more. It’s like that instant reward kind of a thing. It also solves the problem of the difficulty of refilling my bottle because I want more of that water enhancer if I’ve just finished up my bottle.

Just get one of these giant reusable cups with measuring lines on the outside to remind you. Worked for a lot of people I know, because it‘s always on your desk and therefore almost always in sight and you don’t have to refill every time because it’s so big and you don’t keep saying „oh, out of water. I will get some more in a few“ and keep forgetting it. Also: Is Ben‘s desk convertable or is he actually ging to stand all day?

One thing I saw for the amount of water is your weight in Pounds, Divide by 2. That equals the number of Fl Oz you should drink. Also having an easy to use bottle makes drinking water so much easier. You can set habits like I need to have 1 bottle by 10am then the 2nd by 2pm etc. Also setting up other habits at the same time helps cement them into a routine. maybe when you finish your first water do your 40 press ups then the 2nd bottle do sit-ups, etc.

I keep track of water on my FitBit app, so seeing the total reminds me to drink more. Keeping a filled, refillable bottle nearby is my best way to actually drink it though; sometimes with the water flavour enhancers (Mio or Dasani concentrates). I also have a couple coworkers who have little lights that flash on their bottles if they haven’t tipped them for a set period of time. Instant reminder to drink from the bottle.

Get a water bottle that you really love. My husband and I bought ours from Embrava on Amazon. They're 32oz and we fill them in the morning and then try to refill and drink another before the day is up. They make a really nice "glug" sound and have a strap to make them easy to carry and fits in your cup holder. Agreed with another poster to not allow yourself to drink another cup of coffee until you've had your H2O

I drink mainly water and coffee. What helps me is to put in hydration packets to my water that has a flavor I like. I’m a line cook so I need lots of water. :)

I had the same problem. I bought a 1,5liter bottle of water and then I full it with tap water, also I put an orange or cucumber in it to better hydrate myself. Just have it near you! I drink all the time at university just because I’m bored. When I see a bottle, I remember to drink some.

Been a Carlin Brothers fan for years. Just found your solo channel. Seeing kinda the behind the scenes stuff is awesome! Keep it up. Also on water. For me it is honestly just being very conscious and making myself drink it. It has to be done on purpose basically. At least for me personally.

What I find good to do is buy four of the same re-usable water bottles or more. And then before you go to bed, fill all of them up and put them in the fridge, take two before you leave the house, and leave two for home.

I have to drink at least 96 oz of water a day compared to the average 64 oz for the average person. I've found that taking my water bottle with me as I go to the restroom helps me keep up with my daily water intake, and this really works (at least for me) especially due to the fact that you would have to go to the restroom more often if you are drinking a lot of water.

Beth, I feel your pain! I too am constantly on the hunt for the perfect water bottle. And the lid is a huge deal! I don't like the straw lids, because of the weird suction problems you mentioned. I don't like a lid I have to actually remove. And I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a water bottle! The struggle is real.

What I learned in nutrition and wellness, is you should drink .5 to 1 ounce of water per pound of your weight. So for example, a person who weighs 100 pounds should drink anywhere from 50 to 100 ounces of water per day. Also great to have a goal, good luck! Another thing, be careful not to get overhydrated. If that happens, you probably need more electrolytes. Just a tip:)

I, too, used to suffer from lack of water. I just started drinking warm water after that first cup of coffee. That has turned into ice water with me AT ALL TIMES POSSIBLE. I now drink.....get this.....about 5 or 6 20 bottles (well, insulated travel mugs) of water a day! Just make sure it is with you, and sip on that instead of coffee through the day. I know....you own a coffee company. Lol. (Maybe Carlin Brothers Coffee should have insulated hot/cold bottles with a straw. The straw ones are tough to find!)Lol

Reusable bottles are great. Throw some fruit in it (strawberries, lemon, blueberries cut in half, raspberries etc). Or some lemonade. Or just lemon juice

Get a good waterbottle that you can reuse and try to empty it about 4 times a day (depending it on the size of the bottle). It’s better to drink/sip water throughout the day rather than down a glass every now and then, so keep the bottle next to you when you work/do whatever you’re doing. It’s all about getting in the habit 💧
