Fun fact! When he’s talking to the camera and flips the table, it’s all one shot . The lady is next to the camera guy who is sitting where she would, and when he gets up, she sits down so he can flip the table and yell at her. Love the way Ren makes his videos. You need to watch the trilogy of Jennys tale, screeches tale and violets. Has to be in that order. Oh! And watch his chalk outlines live. So beautiful.

Thank you for another Ren reaction with your filmmaker take on it. Many people here hoping you'll react to his Jenny/Screech/Violet trilogy, and I'm certainly one of them. There may not be loads to analyze in them from a film production angle but the way Ren spins a tale with just himself, a guitar and a cameraman is truly worth checking out.

Yes theres alot to analyse. The way he composes the visuals is stunning. It fits perfectly to the lyrics and the music. He does it one take again in all three tales and the scenery hes in always matches perfectly to the story hes telling. Absolutely stunning on every level. Would be very interested on your view of it since you find to most viewers not so obvious things.

I'm really looking forward to hearing Jonathan's reaction to The Tales of Jenny, Screech and Violet as well. I would be interested in his take on Money Game as well. I love hearing his breakdowns of what is going on visually as I am fascinated by the visual aspects of Ren's work as well. So much of it is incredibly theatrical. If Ren ever gets a Netflix show, I'm totally renewing my subscription! Thanks again Jonathan for another great reaction. I am learning so much in watching them!

Others have recommended The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full) and just wanted to chip in my vote for that one as well! It's 3 parts, each one shot live in one take with just Ren, his guitar and the cameraman with a handheld. Another interesting detail is how, shortly before Ren gets up from the table for the first time, the camera (shooting from his perspective) slowly pulls back from the therapist to signify the dissociation he feels as she's prattling off a one-size-fits-all regimen. And I love love love the transition at the end of that first chaotic walk around the room--after all of his agitated body language and lots of camera movement--he gets back to the table, the camera stabilizes, the frenetic energy visibly leaves his body, and he fluidly collapses into the chair to continue the scene. It's fantastically well-done.

The song lyrics about the hypocrisy of smiling at him while telling him he is sick speaks to me deeply I've been seeing councilors on and off since I was a little kid and it's hard to describe just how awful it is to have someone sit there smiling at you telling you how you are unwell. It feels like your a broken person and they are looking down on you.

It's fascinating to see the video production through the eyes of someone who understands it. I always learn so much from your analysis! I'd love to see you discuss Money Game pt1 by Ren. So many reactors have struggled with the symbolism, because it's a bit more abstract. A family friend who is known for his surrealist/dadaist work helped direct it, I believe. I think you would enjoy Ren x Chinchilla 'Chalk Outlines (live)', too, though it's less cinematic. The simplicity makes it very powerful.
@anticafo Жыл бұрын
I agree it would be great someone dive into the symbolism of Money Game 1 video. It's paradoxical - on one hand seems pretty straightforward, but with lots of room of interpretation. Haven't seen anyone break it down and give their take on the symbolism, most people walk away with the message though - maybe it's too much to process at once. More insight and information is revealed after each revisit.

@@anticafo Some of the best breakdowns of the deeper themes and meanings of Ren's stuff I've seen have been by @ShadowAeturnum. (Hes the only one I've seen pick up on a specific note in the Tales, for example.) But I keep seeing people left feeling a bit bemused by the video, and would love to see it discussed by someone with more experience of playing around with visual imagery. Can you tell I've watched waaay to many RenReactions this week?! This particular rabbit hole leads straight to the centre of the Earth...

I'm fairly new to both Ren and your channel, and I'm enjoying both immensely. I'm drawn to your channel because you bring my 2 favourite art-forms together: music and film. And in regards to Ren I've been really impressed with both his music and the filmmaking. This one hit especially hard for me as I relate to both the medical issues and the frustration with the world/system we were all born into and conditioned upon. I'd love to see you do Ren's "The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)", which is a trilogy of tracks/films (about 13 mins long). The creativity and hand-held camera work in that blew me away. At times it almost feels (to me) like they're using a dolly track, but they can't be as I'm fairly certain that each of the 3 films are done in single takes. Edit: do you have a movie reaction channel too? And if not, is that something you would consider doing?
