I listened to "Himlen Är Oskildigt Blå" by Ted Gärdestad for the first time and reacted to it.

Ted is a national treasure, we will always miss him dearly. His songs are out of this world, they will always pull my heartstrings. The fact is that his brother Kenneth Gärdestad is the genius behind the beautiful lyrics to all of Ted's songs while Ted wrote the incredible music and sang the songs. This song was Kenneth writing to his brother and best friend Ted that he knows and sees his pain, even tho it seems to Ted that he's all alone with his troubles. And basically telling him it's okay to cry. "Att regndroppar faller, som tårarna gör, det rår inte stjärnorna för". Another song where he sings about his issues is "Jag vill ha en egen måne". People didn't realize then when it was released what Ted went through but now when you listen to it, you can just tell. Man I'm tearing up just writing this, I better stop with the trivia right here. Kenneth passed away just two years ago and he seemed like an incredible man.

Fun fact: When Ted was a teenager he was ranked the second best tennis player in all of Sweden, just after the legend Björn Borg. And was produced by Stikkan Andersson and Björn and Benny from ABBA. You should def check out more Ted songs. He is a national treasure and had a bunch of hits. I recommend ´Sol, vind och vatten´ and ´För kärlekens skull´. The lyrics are just fantstic. You did an amazing job Kenneth.

A piece of information on this track you may not know...The track was recorded in LA using some of the top studio players of the time including a few of the members from TOTO. Also, I'd like you to know this video was just viewed by family members and they sincerely appreciate your listening and commenting on the song. They send their thanks!

I can *never* listen to that song without my tears breaking through all barriers. I remember my mum (super-fan of Ted), and her tears as she heard about the terrible news that day in 1997, in total disbelief and heartbreak. I was only 8 years old but I remember so clearly that day ... :'(

Thanks for your reactions - Always fun to listen to. Ted wrote the music and his older brother Kenneth wrote the lyrics. It was a constant collaboration through the years and, to my mind, it is difficult to think of the one without the other. Ted was diagnosed with schizofrenia early on and his brother spent most of his life looking out for his kid brother (with the exception for the years Ted livet in the US as part of a Bhagwan sect). He is dearly loved by Swedes and you often hear covers of their songs, as well as their original versions.

Why are we Swedes so obsessed with americans reacting to Swedish things? Don't know why, but still I'm here! 🥴😅 Also, this song is and will always be close to my heart. It was my dads favorite and he passed away almost 3 years ago. When I listen to it I always think of him. ❤

I would guess there is just a great deal of satisfaction introducing another person to something you love, hoping that they will love it too. There are plenty of channels, with overwhelmingly American audiences, that react to American things. Why are many Americans so obsessed with Irish or German people reacting American things? I don’t know, but as American/Swede I enjoy both types of videos.

You should watch the movie "Ted - För kärlekens skull" that came out in 2018. It tells a lot about his life. He went through so incredibly much. His older brother Kenneth, who wrote all the texts, was very involved in the making of the movie. He died two months after the premiere, after a long battle against cancer.

This is a beautiful piece as all of Teds and his brothers' songs.they go straight to your heart. The mest sentimental piece though is "I den stora sorgens famn" which was written by his brother by the time Ted was in a very dark period of time and his brother couldn't reach him. His brother's words to his brother sang by Ted🥺😥

Please do more Ted! He's a part of the soul of swedish music. I also recommend, when you've done all your reactions on him, to watch the movie "Ted - för kärlekens skull" from 2018 about his life, career and music. The movie is very well made and the cast is brilliant. Ted's children wanted to stop the movie but his older brother Kenneth (who wrote all the beautiful lyrics for Ted) wanted his story to be told. Kenneth was very ill at the time, but lived to see the movie be released before he died.

One thing to note when it came to the music/production of the song: The production was done by Björn and Benny from ABBA, so there is no surprise that it had these layers and build-ups that you heard. They are praised for the production of the ABBA songs from most well-known musicians and producers all over the world, so he couldn't have had better support when it came to that.

Just noticed your channel, and fun to watch your reactions..nice of you to "react " to old swedish classics. As for this one, it´s beatiful, but not his best in my opinion..but the thing is with his songs, it may mean differently, have different impact to different people depending on what kind of heartache they have..something like that:) To me Sol Vind och Vatten ( sun wind and water) is probably his best..but I also found out and can agree with another fellow here, that "Come give me Love" is extremely powerful, backup vocals by former Abba girls Annifrid and Agneta in English, and if it had been made in English by him, I would bet that it would have been a huge it internationally as well. I just found out that Teds "Come give me love" was done as a cover in English, by first Aid kit. The original "Come give me love" from Ted.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/el7XepaDlJVofpI And the cover from First aid kit.."come give me love" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nImUpZ-gj893itU First Aid kit is another swedish treasure in modern times, though they do most songs in English..and haven´t really made any Swedish classics(Yet) Otherwise they got world wide hits for themself, and know for also producing tears for every cover they do for great artists on polar prize awards such as Emmylou harris, Patti Smith, and Paul simon First Aid Kits Klara Söderbergs voice is so unique it almost brings tears to my eyes everytime and goosebumps.

You are not being affected by the back-story; Gärdestad's songs kind of all do have a raw sense of..intangible sadness, loneliness.. in how he perform them.. Technically it's rather "nostalgia"- I'd say, BUT it kind of is the type of nostalgia that a person who is sad would feel... and I thought this listening to his music as a kid.. (before I knew who he was or how he died).
