Nice job. Reminded me of when I worked for a contractor who told me, back in the mid '80's, to take his mid '60's cab over flatbed to go pick up a backhoe he was leasing. I was not a happy camper driving this very overloaded truck. Found out later it wasn't even registered for the wt. of the truck. Most of the trip was highway and luckily no cops seen and was able to keep at least 40 mph on the hills, but made it. Another time a guy in a smaller roll back came to pick up my brother-in-law's fork truck. I'd say a normal small factory one. He used his for moving big rolls of carpet around. Anyway, when the guy drove the fork lift onto his roll back it bottomed out the suspension. I was a bit surprised and also realized how much those counter weights weigh. Thanks for sharing.

Get you an old moving blanket, or even an old coat, and throw over part of that cable when you're winching. It'll absorb some of the energy if it snaps and drop it to the ground.

Johnathon, you could do with getting back there to grab what I assume is a series 2 or series 3 Land Rover from the undergrowth. To a collector or restorer that's worth a few pennies over in the U.S. Because of the 25 year rule, many people have to import older non modified ones for use over there. Imported and upgraded ones can fetch upto $130k

You built a really strong truck! That is one heck of a beast! Well done! Very nicely done rescue Jonathan! Good to see you being cautious of the cable and chain. However, you should make your cameraman get the heck out of harms way also. He was right up on it and could have gotten sliced in half. Please instruct him. Show him a video or two of a cable/chain snapping and I think he will stay a lot further back - haha! Guess you forgot your rubber matt to put over the cable this time.

I'm generally not a fan of foreign equipment. However, I know this dozer and it's a pretty good one. I had a 1968 Michigan backhoe with that same curved exhaust pipe. It stayed dry even in heavy snow storms. You mentioned Allis-Chalmers crawlers. I had a great WW2 vintage HD-7 with a 3-71 Detroit. I wouldn't know what to do with a new machine......

A little bit of prep work would have made it a lil easier. Mayb n mayb not but it would have been a try. If you had opened the valves take a 20 ton bottle jack n raise the blade it would have lifted. You may jave wanted to chain to secure the blade in the raised position for transport.

Looks like you built a pretty darn stout roll back! Winching up a car that will roll is one thing but winching up something with tracks that won't roll is an entirely different monster. The amount of static friction you have to overcome is HUGE. How far did you dig the rollback bed into the ground when you were pulling that thing up? Looks like she just edged in and got underneath it.

Don't you wish you had welded "D" rings in next to the winch now? Still, all in all since you were dragging dead weight, great job for that roll back. Doubt if a "commercial" one would have done it.
