Brilliant capture from our wee airport down the road! Glasgow has seen some great drama's over the years and we've all witnessed two or three I'm sure but this video Jonathon is a superb example and analysis on all of went on. Shows how people on the ground as well as those in the air handle their respective responsibilities and boy, they did well here, cool as cucumbers! Magic to see that Capt. Bob has come on and left a very warm message - bet that means a lot to you and shows that he appreciates that some people really consider what he was up against was a tough old gig.

Great timing and exciting times (for some)...My daughter and I went to Amsterdam last July and on our return I noticed our plane done a massive turn in the air above Norfolk... I said to my daughter that something was up...only seconds later the captain informed us that due to hydrologic problems we were returning to AMS...my poor daughter was bricking it. Actually I might upload that flight on KZbin...AMS to NCL via AMS ;). Will you be recording the United flight into NCL by any chance? in a situation like this, wouldn't it have been a better idea to evac? hot brakes from an overweight landing combined with oil potentially leaking could be REALLY bad if the brakes spark up and tires ignite, especially when the aircraft stopped for inspection. oil could've pooled up. yes they were in direct contact with fire services, but an extra 30 seconds before they decide to evac could be huge
@JonathanWinton1236 жыл бұрын
No not at all. As the situation as assessed by the crew was safe enough to go to a remote stand and deboard there. You have to remember that simply evacuating passengers unecessarily in this kind of situation could create more problems and headaches for everyone, emergency services etc etc. No need to evacuate as the emegency was completely under control and did not pose any immediate danger to the crew or passengers and upon inspection by the fire service was given the all clear to taxi to a stand.

@ninejets8 жыл бұрын
robert hinchliffe the brakes would catch fire
@joetocayo8 жыл бұрын
+robert hinchliffe Each thrust reverser operates independently. On a normal landing, both would be used. With only one operational, either the engine itself, or the reverser, an aircraft would get asymmetrical thrust, possibly causing control difficulties. Not wise on a slick runway. On this landing, they were landing with a brisk crosswind from the right. An airplane would tend to weathervane into the wind, or turn right. Since they had a good left engine and thrust reverser, using it actually countered that tendency to veer right. Not always a good idea to use reverse thrust if one is inoperative, but on that landing, it actually helped keep the airplane straight, as well as assisting in stopping.
