I was skeptic when I saw the title, because this song is one of the most powerful tracks from Linkin Park, especially from Chester. It has a huge meaning behind the lines, there is a whole story, a broken, hopeless story that slowly killed a beautiful soul. I've always thought that no one can ever sing it like Chester, and no one ever should, because it's his song, his stroy, his pain. And I was kind of right, no one will ever sing the way he did, but it is alright. The original was strong, it hurt hurt hurt on so many levels, the way Chester was screaming and barely even breathing through the lines, the way he sang faster and faster with every word represented his angry and hopeless depression, the fight he couldn't win against his own broken soul, and those true feelings made this song legendary. Your version is totally different, and thank God it is. It is calmer, it has strength in it on so many levels, it has the determination and hope of a person who decided to get up and turn into the light again. It doesn't have the pain the song carried with Chester, but it has the will of fight, and it was everything. Thank you very much for this beautiful masterpiece. This is how his memory should go on. This is how we heal.

Mogyee95 this is so true. My heart's still sore from his death, i cant help but feel like i took Chester for granted when he was with us. It didnt even cross my mind that he might not have been okay. I continued to hurt myself when he was singing and his words were curing my sickness, but I kept hurting myself. I feel like a dirty scumbag who's betrayed him. But maybe this is how we should heal.

Memories consume Like opening the wound I'm picking me apart again You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again I don't want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I know it's not alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit tonight Clutching my cure I tightly lock the door I try to catch my breath again I hurt much more Than anytime before I had no options left again I don't want to be the one The battles always choose 'Cause inside I realize That I'm the one confused I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream I don't know why I instigate And say what I don't mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit tonight I'll paint it on the walls 'Cause I'm the one at fault I'll never fight again And this is how it ends I don't know what's worth fighting for Or why I have to scream But now I have some clarity To show you what I mean I don't know how I got this way I'll never be alright So I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit I'm breaking the habit tonight

Honestly so genuinely beautiful. The original catches the chaos of emotions, the panic he feels in what he’s about to do. This version sounds so... content. Sounds like they accepted their fate and they’re just content with what’s going to happen. Honestly gives completely new meaning to the original song. One shows the chaos and one shows the calm before the storm. I love it. Either way, brought me to tears. 10/10.

Beautifully done. The greatness of the original was that it spoke Chester's true struggle and emotions. It was personal and was something only he could convey and no one else could. Instead of trying to mimic the struggle in the song you sung it your own way. It sounds like you're mourning a loss than trying to overcome a struggle which is what is truly comming from the heart when you sing it. To you it is not the struggle that went on to the end of Chester's life, it's the echo of an inspiration to you that has now passed. You made this version your own and it's stands better for it.

I cannot get through any cover or any song of theirs without crying anymore. When I listened to them in middle and high school I was just some edgy kid who thought my life sucked. Now, just as I got back into them as someone with GAD and depression, their lyrics really meant something to me now that he's gone, the lyrics speak to me on a whole new level. Cause when someone who helps us through so much loses his battle, what do we do...?

I was recently reminded of one of my old friends. The one friend I couldn't help. The one friend I lost to suicide. I can usually tell when my friends are depressed. I couldn't tell with her. My friends just, without me saying anything, would come to me with suicidal thoughts, I'd always talk them down. She didn't come to me. The morning after the last day of Sophomore year, 2008. I woke to a text of her smiling face saying 'I always loved you'. I immediately called her, her mom answered, she did the unthinkable just a few minutes after that text. Her mom and dad were out on a date at the time. I found out I was the last person she ever contacted. I guess I subconsciously pushed that memory down deeper and deeper. Turns out, this was her favorite song. Maybe it was a sign? I don't know. I had a BUNCH of friends who were never suicidal or even depressed who loved this song and even had Linkin Park as their favorite band forever. I think I've played this song on youtube and my phone about 50 times since that memory was dredged up this past Monday(currently end of Wednesday). I reached out to the person who wrote a note to a youtuber, who read it aloud on his community stream Monday night. He had a similar experience. I related mine to him and the other one I have that relates to the OTHER part of his in his letter. We're friends now and I thanked him for bringing up a part of my history I don't know why I'd ever want to forget. Now, I thank you for reinforcing my vehemently strong personal push through depression, suicidal thoughts, and my efforts to help those around me. I'm no professional, but I've always been a shoulder and supporter for friends. Thank you!

@@amberlee.nycole.perrine8150 I know. I miss her, but she's free now. Thank you. I recently had another loss in my life, July 5th of last year. Well, July 4th, but no one knew until the morning of the 5th. My 12 year old niece had committed suicide. My family won't be celebrating our nation's Independence Day as normal, if at all, for a while. In the last 10 years it's just been blow, after blow, after blow. But, good things have come, too. Finally getting a pet I've always wanted, a Leopard gecko. Getting over my ex, finding 'me' without someone in my life, accepting my bisexual side, getting my first boyfriend, and coming out to my family. Adopting a leopard gecko from a couple friends, and currently going through work to raise him back to health. But along the way, I've lost my father, an uncle, my sister-in-law, and one of my nieces. Life comes with ups and downs, some downs worse than others. But, I have stayed positive. Living for those I've lost before their time.

I LOVE this cover. This is a perfect example of something i realized recently as i started listening to more Linkin Park songs: the faster songs are usually heavier than the slower/more emotional ones. Songs like this, Bleed it out, and One step closer hide the heavy meaning behind the fast paced intensity of the song itself and to hear that be brought to the forefront of the song...it's incredible

This song is my absolute favorite song by Linkin Park, for the longest time, and eventually became the anthem in my sobriety. It's rough to make a cover of this and make it as powerful as the original while paying it homage, and you hit the nail on the head. Beautifully done!

Allie Marie - I may be nine months late, but your story is the same as mine. When I first heard the song in high school, it was an anthem for the general crappiness that everyone feels as a teenager. As an adult, it took on a much darker, personal meaning. I wish you all the best in your continuing journey, my sister. It's not easy, but we've got this. ❤

I was expecting a metal cover of this song, but I was incredibly surprised by this cover. While I don't consider it as good as the original, you took the song on a different direction that doesn't stray away from its real meaning. Call me a hipster, but I love Nickelback's music, particularly songs like: "Far Away"; "If Everyone Cared"; "When We Stand Together". The "country"-style music helps to give the songs more meaning, and sound more powerful. It wouldn't have been as powerful if they used hard rock. It's the same here. Your voice is also amazing; it sounds like a man crying/screaming for help from the deepest pits of the abyss, while being torn apart by the demons he created. I will always the love original more, but this version did something different with it and still kept the meaning and soul of the song. Rest in Peace, Chester Bennington.

Three years... God, it feels like longer. I remember when I first found out; I was just hanging out with my brother and playing some video games and all of a sudden my mom started crying uncontrollably. She'd found a news article online about how Chester was gone, and at first I thought it was just some joke being played by journalists. I still wish that was the case... It was a long time before anyone in my house listened to Linkin Park, almost a year and a half. And at first it was hard, finding the songs that wouldn't make me cry; but over time it's gotten easier. There's only a handful now that do it, Numb, Leave Out All The Rest, and Breaking The Habit are the main ones. And almost every time I listen to a cover or the original of this, I have to hold back the tears. Jonathan did an amazing job with this, I say along the entire time, even when tears started flowing, and I'm glad, because it personally shows how well of a job he did putting the right emotions into the song. Chester would be proud, I firmly believe that. Rest In Piece, Chester

This is quite honestly the best cover i’ve ever heard! I’m not one to really care for covers of classics but this, is amazingly and done in with soul! Not many people can cover such a classic like this. I’ve tried my hand at covering My December, Papercut and With You. I sound rather “ok” without studio equipment, but this...takes the cake and the heart in the lyrics, is very impactful! Bravo!
