This came out only a few days after a close friend of mine died of suicide. I've lost friends before. This wasn't the first. I have lost a friend to a meth addiction. I have lost a friend to cancer. I have lost a friend to the hands of a murderer. I have lost a friend to the hands of a drunk driver. I have lost a friend to being in the Army and going to Iraq. None of those deaths prepared me for losing a friend to suicide. I am still shaken to the core over her. The fact her life got to a point where she felt there was no way to rectify the wrongs that were done to her, where she felt ending her own life was the only way to escape the pain. She was a good person. Beyond good. She was one of my best friends. She was there for me when I was struggling. I met her while I was homeless and she helped me get food and took me driving to get out of the heat. She didn't deserve to be treated the way she was. People hurt her badly. But she was, and she was traumatized because of it, and now she's gone.

Step one, you say we need to talk He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk He smiles politely back at you You stare politely right on through Some sort of window to your right As he goes left, and you stay right Between the lines of fear and blame You begin to wonder why you came Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Let him know that you know best Cause after all, you do know best Try to slip past his defense Without granting innocence Lay down a list of what is wrong The things you've told him all along And pray to God he hears you And I pray to God he hears you Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life As he begins to raise his voice You lower yours and grant him one last choice Drive until you lose the road Or break with the ones you've followed He will do one of two things He will admit to everything Or he'll say he's just not the same And you'll begin to wonder why you came Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend Somewhere along in the bitterness And I would have stayed up with you all night Had I known how to save a life Where did I go wrong? This song really hit me. Just recently my depression had gotten really bad and I refused to talk to anyone as it just kept getting worse. Not wanting them to worry and that. But Im terrible at hiding how I feel so they did worry. One day I felt that nothing really mattered anymore and I started to shut everyone out. Some of my closest friends pulled me aside and wanted me to speak with them. They felt that I was going to do something stupid if another day had gone by, and shit I had been wanting to. But my friends had told me that they cared about me. Like truely. That if I suddenly vanished they'd be the first to come looking for me. That I have value in their lives and how just being able to see me is enough for them to feel happy. I dont know... To others my feelings would be ignored or pushed aside but knowing that Im loved in such a way, just put me at ease. Depression is one hell of thing... Even though I fight it each day I at least know I have others that want to help whenever I need it.

You need to sing more songs like this! Your voice sounds great when you sing soft rock.

This song was playing on the radio when I was on the bus to basic training. I always think of that when I hear it.
