This was mine and my late ex's song. She died 18 and a half years ago. The irony of this being "our song" and her dying isn't lost on me. This popped in my feed today. I've been having a particularly rough week, and it could not have come at a better time. I want you to know, Jonathan, while I'm sat here, weeping, missing her terribly, this is absolutely the most beautiful version of the song I've ever heard. And that she would have loved it. Thank you so much for this. Thank you.

@@diego2112gaming I've had a "feeling" for this song since it originally came out. Now I'm dealing with not hearing from my 'best friend' for a month, after we were separate for about 5 years because of...just say horrible circumstances.... I've loved her since we first became friends, and now can't find anything out: get the Covid because has to work with the public? Break phone again like did last month? Hell, she was sounding suicidal in last text.... So yeah, JYoung putting so much emotion into this cover...it's something... Sorry for your loss, good on you for finally finding peace with it. I hope I can, if have to...

Lyrics: And I'd give up forever to touch you 'Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life And sooner or later, it's over I just don't wanna miss you tonight And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies When everything feels like the movies Yeah, you bleed just to know, you're alive And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am I just want you to know who I am

I know this isn't the real interpretation of the song, but with my anxiety and being somewhere on the autism spectrum the lyrics "And I don't want the world to see me/I don't think that they'd understand" really hits. Especially being followed by "I just want you to know who I am" Many people like myself have difficulties communicating exactly what's going through their minds. Even this little bit I am writing in this comment is mentally exhausting in a way, because I have to rethink every single letter and word. I've managed to work it out, but not everyone can.

What I love about this song is that Rzeznik, even though he wrote it for City of Angels, designed it in such a way that it can be interpreted in any situation involving longing for acceptance - from a love, a society, or, how I view the song, your own sense of self. Though I enjoy the memey trollishness of some of Jon's covers, I'm glad he poured everything into this song - because it means so much to so many people.

Which is something I don't understand about the original. Despite the romantic instrumentals, everything is laced with a certain nostalgia. It's very clearly about longing for happy times long past, about wanting to relive the good times without the inevitable pain that the world insists on judging you for, yet it's frequently played during happy couple moments in movies. It makes zero sense to me.
@myheadhurtsagain
@myheadhurtsagain 4 жыл бұрын
@@KarlAndArma4ever That is certainly a good interpretation. I think however I might get why so many romantic movies use the song. This is a song about finding someone who understands you in a world full of people you don't, or maybe even can't, trust. The first verse is entirely romantic but it becomes stained by this trepidation in the end of the second bar. "And I don't want to go home right now". Clearly the person who is singing the song is quite happy in this moment, but the moment must end eventually. And then by the end of the first verse, we now know that the protagonist will never be the same after this experience, "I just don't want to miss you tonight." Because they know they will. The chorus in this light suddenly sings a very different tune. Suddenly we get a confirmation that our protagonist feels separate from the world. "And I don't want the world to see me, cause I don't think that they'd understand" is a powerful declaration. While they say "think" the emotional delivery in conjunction with the previously stained verse, should tells us that they "know" the world won't understand. That is all they have ever experienced. Until this moment, with this person. The rest of the song very much still follows suit with this idea. In fact despite how dark the words are, the last two lines of the chorus (especially the last one) really solidify this as a very romantic and vulnerable piece. "When everything's made to be broken" acknowledges that time is fleeting, eventually everything comes to an end, whether by death or other tragedy. "I just want you to know who I am" is a declaration that despite all of that pain and heartache, they are reaching out. This is important enough to reach out for.

It was a beautiful day with me and my boyfriend listening to this (original) song and we had such a nice moment together.... A few days later he broke up with me. I still dont know why but this song and now specially this version makes me so heartbroken but reminds me of such a wonderful moment I had with this person... To everyone out there suffering because of a broken relationship. I know you can make ot through and keep on. Get well soon♡

I had many father figures. Some family, some friends of family, some were teachers, among others. Growing up, most of them told me at one point or another that boys aren't supposed to cry. So, once I became a teen, I made the argument, that boys may not cry. But there's a difference between a boy and a man. Then I told them to grow up like I had. Ironic. I didn't recognize that I still had growing up to do myself. This is one song that brought me to tears as a grown man. It's a powerful song with many powerful meanings to different people, and it deserves to be heard by as many people as possible.

And always remember to treat yourself like someone you loved.

This was my ex wife and my wedding song...this is so much more beautiful than the original version!! I'm thrown back in time to walking up the stairs to our first lesson w the guy who helped choreograph our first dance at the wedding....the evenings in the heat and humidity, practicing our dance out behind our apartment complex, the day of the wedding, finally showing our family and friends what we had practiced for so long...its so bittersweet hearing this!! I love you so much babes, and I always will. I'm so sorry it didn't work out!
