Quit eating sugar years ago but I asked my Cardiologist if blending destroys the fiber he said no. He told me in laymens terms that all humans chew, and chewing is the process of breaking food down before ingesting which the body processes. Using a blender, just "chews" everything down before we swallow it and the body processes it much faster with no loss of nutrition or fiber. He did say not to blend in a high powered blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec no more than 30 seconds (it pulverizes in less than 20 seconds) because friction from blender blades create warmth, and warmth (like cooking) can destroy nutritional value. Told me to put my favorite fruits whole but no more than 3/4 of a cup. Fifteen years going strong. Pros and Cons I guess on who you speak to so I guess bodies vary lol. Cheated once about four years ago, buying a huge cinnamon roll, and finished only half the sugar made me gag almost and the next day I had a itchy rash. After just one day! Never did it again. Good luck and look at all the money you will save :) Great video!

your cardiologist doesn't understand that high speed blending separates the insoluble fiber from the soluble fiber. Without the insoluble fiber the soluble fiber cannot slow down the absorption of the sugars into the intenstine. Always eat fruit whole if you want to minimize the insulin response, and sugar uptake.

I’ve been vegan for almost 10 years now, and it was definitely the best decision of my entire life. Now, quitting industrial sugar is the second game changer. Even though I believe I will have something with sugar in it every now and then, almost not consuming it anymore causes unbelievable changes that are nothing but amazing. So, because of that little comment in the video about vegans: There was a time when you thought eating sugar was the most normal thing in the world, and you would have never thought you’d quit. Now you probably can’t believe how blind you were and that you did that for so long. That’s how I, and probably most vegans, think about eating “animal products” as well. I hope that clears things up or helps you see another point of view. 💚 Great video! I enjoyed watching it.

The thing about smoothies having the fibre ripped apart was interesting. We love our smoothies and we’ve been on a “low sugar” diet for years!
@JonBear Жыл бұрын
So this seems to be a bit up to debate. Another viewer pointed out evidence to the contrary. The source I went with was Dr. Robert who claims there are two types of fibers, soluble and insoluble fibers, and that the insoluble fibers don’t survive the blender and gets too pulverized to form a gel for the intestines. Smoothies are probably more beneficial than I say in the video. The only thing that seems universally agreed is that eating a whole fruit is better than drinking it in smoothie form, but people disagree on the extent.

Jon, I liked the information in this video, so thanks for that. What is your educational background? The reason I ask is that I see other information from normally reliable sources on the internet that say you don't lose much, if any fiber, when you make a fruit smoothie. Medical science often has conflicting studies and opinions on many different things and we all have to make a personal judgment about what to believe. I have no medical training, but I will say that it is not logical to me that a crude blade from a Magic Bullet blender can separate and destroy fiber molecules which are microscopic. For now I will continue to enjoy fruit smoothies.

Well, here's my experience. It was in 1967 that I read in New Scientist about the work of John Yudkin on the harmful effect of processed white sugar. You know - the stuff on the tele ads (if you're old enough) - those beautiful sparkling crystals of "pure white goodness. - Why would mothers give their families anything else? " But as for me - I stopped using it. It wasn't easy - that wretched stuff is so addictive! But I won. I continued with a diet of just natural food - fruit and vegetables, dairy, fish and occasional meat, organic as much as possible, And now? Well, I'm 79 ("God! - You don't look it.", I'm told.), and healthy and fit - I still go mountaineering. Weight and blood parameters are all normal. I'm never hungry, and I eat when I think I'd like to - not by the clock. I sleep well and wake up well rested. So - try it yourself. It's lovely.

01:41 - this is a very important point that the lay person will attempt to debunk. The fructose in fruit is retained within its fibre. High speed blending shreds the fruit's long stringy insoluble fibre into tiny pieces and separates it from the soluble fibre. Without the insoluble fiber, the soluble fiber cannot slow down the absorption of the sugars into the intestines. This is why blending fruit is not a good idea. Always eat your fruit whole, and chew to get the best results.

If you are highly addicted, add sugar - you will limit other chemical crap with sugar to only your own - attention is very stimulating :) 4. Try sugar-free sometime :) 5. If there was a lot of cocoa in point 1, drink water so that the concentrate does not stay in the intestines/stomach for a long time ;) Similarly, it is worth mixing white cheese + cocoa + buttermilk/kefir Unfortunately, sometimes I go back to the sugar rush ;)

Excellent video overall, and a very worthy nutritional goal of giving up sugar. However, I disagree when it comes to smoothies, especially the healthiest kind of smoothies which are home made. Smoothies are how we get about half of our fresh veggies and greens. We add just enough fresh and/or frozen fruit to make it palatable. They're also a great way to use veggies that are just starting to go off a little. You wouldn't want to use them in a salad, but in a smoothie, you don't notice. You are absolutely right that fresh fruit and veggies are much better for you than fruit and veggies in a smoothie. But beware making "the perfect the enemy of the good." Similarly, fruit juice is usually about as unhealthy as soda -- with a few exceptions like unsweetened cranberry juice. However, vegetable juice can be ridiculously healthy -- for example, 1/3 juice from greens or broccoli, 1/3 from carrot, and 1/3 from a veggie of your choice. Only a salad is likely to be as healthy as that would be.

Eating whole fruits delivers the benefit of a fruit's fiber, vitamins, and other desirable nutrients. Nature designed the fiber to slow the speed of absorption of the sugar in our bodies. The pulp that remains after juicing is mostly a fruit's fiber, and the juice sugar is rapidly absorbed in our systems due to the absence of fiber and quickly spikes insulin. Insulin spikes of these types are not good for us. 🎉🎉🎉
