Your point about “Cry For Me” feeling like it already existed in the universe and they were just the ones who were able to materialize it is so beautiful. At its core, this album just feels like a love story between two musicians for the music itself. Its so free and inspiring and Im so glad you love it as much as I do.

Fun trivia: an imaginal disc (with a c) is basically these parts of an insect larva that become the outer parts of an adult insect after metamorphosis. I like to think this album has a general theme of "parts of our youth that stick with us and form who we are as adults." Their other record Mercurial World has a general metamorphosis theme

Definitely check out their first album, Mercurial World. They are geniuses! Started off in a prog rock band, so a lot of their songs have that proggy influence. Matt absolutely idolized Rush, so glad you could immediately identify the inspiration in Tunnel Vision!

I was already into this band before Imaginal Disk came out but nothing compares to my first listen of it. Jaw-dropping, next-level stuff. Immediately in my top 3 of all time, I don't care what anyone says. So glad you were so mind blown by it like so many others.

So Imaginal Disk is by far my favorite project by them but I think you would still really appreciate their technically debut album Mercurial World. Outside of these two albums, they have a bunch of much smaller EPs that are excellent in their own right but in a much more niche way.

The fade-out on cry for me is so interesting to me cause it actually adds to the narrative to the track. The song has themes of moving on and leaving something behind, and the fade-out feels like the person who is being sung about is doing exactly that

This album took me completely by surprise this year. I listen to music in the background while I work, but when "Image" came on, I found myself jamming to it. And from there, I was a convert to the whole album.

Was one of the people that suggested you react to this album. Glad you love it. My favorite record since Lana Del Rey's NFR, and perhaps even Depeche Mode's 1993 Songs of Faith and Devotion. Of course, this is also psychedelic music, so under some influence, it really makes you soar.

hey jon great reaction as always! one of my faves of the year for sure, also a record i think you’d absolutely love especially being an og rocker is the self titled album from Foxing that came out about a month ago, these guys have been at it for 10+ years now but are always changing up their sound a bit and this new album is super abrasive noisy and explosive and full of great tracks, highly recommend!
