Im not really a fan of Drake but this album dropped at a significant time in my life when I was in highschool. It's one of those "you had to be there" moments in music. This is where Drake truly became a superstar.

@@xzotic6 i disagree because sometimes if you listen to music later than it was released and the artist has already made better music, you won’t like it as much because you already know what they’re capable of but if you listen to it at the time it’s released you’ll feel it more because you have nothing to compare it too (idk if this makes sense i’m bad at explaining)

He was more or less pushed by the label to make this album to ride the success of So Far Gone, and it’s one of the most expensive debut Rap albums ever (You can tell by the features and the production), hence why it sounds so commercial. @@PRODJUN i miss that era of hip hop in general bro. Back when Drake, Cole, Kendrick, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Mac Miller, and many more were fresh on the scene and hungry. Back when Wayne and Kanye were still running the game. To me that was the closest thing to a modern golden era of rap that we had. Before the mumbling, before the clout chasing, you didn’t have to rap about killing, it was just about making good music and rapping your heart out and being yourself with a lil bit of singing and harmony added in. Hell even the trap music back then was better IMO lol I’ll take old Jeezy, Gucci, Waka and OJ da juiceman over these new dudes any day

As a major Drake fan, it’s difficult for me to determine what my top 3 projects of his would be but I really do believe this album has a chance of making it, I love the young, raw, on the come up Drake energy throughout the tracks, it takes me back to my late middle school/ early high school years, and I really love the production of this album. It’s very commercial but admittedly, it’s sonically pleasing. Also as Jon said, I’ve listened to these tracks hundreds of times each so they’ve obviously only aged like fine wine for me.

Drake has spoken about this record as it kind of being a rushed project, pressure from the label to work with big names, big producers, to make a standout debut album. Which really took away from what Drake is as an artist, not having a lot of 40 on the record really hurt the sound of this album overall. You hear it a ton in the lyrics of this album, everything is moving so fast in his life as he's skyrocketed to superstardom in mere months since So Far Gone. FYI, you still have 2 mixtapes - Room for Improvement (his very first project - very old Jay-Z inspired) and Comeback Season.

@@lulanokonwo6274 So Far Gone came out in Feb. 2009, Thank Me Later came out in June 2010. That's not a lot of time to blow up into superstardom, tour with Lil Wayne, meet all of these artists you looked up to, and then proceed to working with them and writing dozens of songs for an album. Hip-Hop is held to a higher standard of how quickly artists fizzle out and how quickly they need to put out music. The label rushed him into creating a debut project. Thank Me Later had many songs that leaked early on, so the album was presumably finished at least a month or two before release. With Take Care, he approached it differently. He locked in with 40, he took his time, and they worked on the album until the final hours before release, as they do now. They've followed the Take Care formula ever since.

NWTS is Drake's best album. To me that's when Drake went Ultra Instinct Drake. However this album came out in a significant moment in my life, first year living on campus, you can imagine the parties. Up All Night had everyone going, both him and Nicki killed it. But again, Light Up is the best song on here.

Thank Me Later is easily my top 3 favorite Drake albums. Nostalgic and great! I still remember my mothers co-worker handing me this CD when it releases since he knew I liked So Far Gone.

Btw Drake said that he didn't really have much creative freedom on this album like he had on Take Care or NWTS. The label was too fixated on getting him to collaborate with big names and making super mainstream songs. That's why it kinda lacks some identity (it's still good tho)

A lot of these songs are just vibes … I don’t think it’s an easy listen in this capacity …. But just driving around with the windows down at night hits …. Definitely Nostalgia helps too like Jon alluded to…. This was the soundtrack to my sophomore year of high school so the memories associated are heavy …. Great reaction still 👌🏽🔥

I don’t really understand how people hate on this album. Even Aubrey said that this is his least favorite album. I know that there was a lot of label shit behind it but this album has some of his BEST fkn songs he’s ever done. Fireworks, Up all night, UNFORGETTABLE, Light up, FIND YOUR LOVE!!!!!!!
