Many thanks! You know the TF is exceptional and a favorite on the site. You are right, it does have a lot of similarities but it rides a lot wider/bigger/more aggressive vs the rest of these boards so I kept it out.

Thanks for the comparison video! Might not be a directly comparable board with the shape, but how does the Moss Jellyfish compare to these boards? With the rear foot camber and step up rocker it seems to have a similar profile to the boards in this video. Most interested in the comparison to the Mantaray since you speak so highly about that board!

My pleasure. You know the shape is much more directional/set back/surf like than all these boards including the Mantaray. The camber of the Jelly is very different too. It's more loose and really is all about the back foot when turning. It has more float than these boards as well. Having a Mantaray and Jelly Fish would be a pretty amazing 2 board quiver because there is not much overlap in board personality. It's also a pretty expensive one though.

Circling back - I just picked up a 156 Mantaray , again primarily based on your rave reviews of that board. Can’t wait to try it out! Hope I love it as much as the Moss Jellyfish, which is honestly currently my all-time favourite

How would you say the mind expander compares to the twin? I rode the twin and loved how playful it was, but am looking at the full directional mind expander because riding switch isn’t a priority for me. Is the mind expander as fun as the mind expander twin?

Two massively different boards. You are sitting way back on the narrow tail vs the twin. If you want more directional float this is the call.

i've been riding ultra mind expander 154, it's so damn stiff & almost same as moss u4 half overhead which i rode few years back!!! i prefered medium to medium stiff boards for riding deep pow in niseko / rusutsu. please review more japanese boards, there are still many good pow board you have to review like moss mahi, moss wing pin or a few gentemstick line up (TT, Impossible 186, Super Fish 176 or the snowsurf line up) ...

Yes, I know, and I always try but it isn't easy to get a hold of them in the US. Moss and Gentemstick go out of their way to help but it hasn't been easy to get them to me since 2020.

James, what boards out there would you recommend for folks chasing after the ride and feel of the old (flat to rocker) Mind Expander?

That's a tough call. None are close to that feel as the old ME was a unique board. Of the ones in the comparison I would say the Powgoda is closest. I would say the Capita Spring Break Powder glider has a flat to rocker profile but with a little more flat, a little less rocker and a pretty different all around ride. It's a different shape, sidecut, flex personality and ride but man it floats well and it's one of our favorite pow rides. So if you want that it might be worth a look. Also the 2024 Pow Glider comes in a 154,158 & 162 instead of just a 158.

Hi. I have a very hard choice. I'm hesitating between two boards. The old Ultra Mind Expander 2022 and the new Mind Expander 2024. I can have both at same prices. I'm expert rider, 175cm and 70kg (FOOTSIZE 25.5). I'm looking for a great fun powder day snowboard and pretty fun on slopes to makes carving turns and little tricks. I have this deal with a 158cm board. Can you help me please ? Thanks a lot

Not sure if the 158 is a good size with 25.5 mondo. You might want to look for a 154 2024 or 2023. That's a little less in pow than the 2022 but soo much more on groomers. Hit me up here if you want to get into more detail to get better advice. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/

If you have stiff sole boots and don't need any adjustability go Jones Mercury. That is a great fit. Otherwise consider the Union Atlas and Rome Katana. Those work super well.
