The Equalizer camber profile has been changed for the 2024/25 model to “Resort V2” which is very different than the old “Alpine V1” profile that continues in the BSOD. Could you review the 24/25 Equalizer version and compare it to the old model? How does the camber profile update change the way the it rides as a freeride/ off-piste board/ powder float?
@thegoodridesnow
@thegoodridesnow 6 сағат бұрын
Agreed. I've tried both camber profiles in other boards and that's a very different on snow feel. I'll see if Step or Jordan (new reviewer) can get on the new one. I think they both have ridden the older model so they should be able to compare.

Do you think you only thought yhe Outsiders was softer because you down sized? Having one in the past its a pretty stiff board, Capita also rates the Indoor as softer in their lineup
@thegoodridesnow
@thegoodridesnow 6 сағат бұрын
I've tried the 156 Outsiders in the past and that felt soft too. It always felt like a 4 out of 10 instead of a 6 out of 10. I also always felt the Indoor Survival felt a little stiffer than its 5 out of 10 flex rating, and so did Davey on the wide, but I also noticed that the 2025 Indoor Survival got softer in 2025, and I didn't get to try that model. I generally don't go by the brand's ratings as I find them inconsistent and often inaccurate. Regardless, I'm removing that sentence because it is confusing and might not be accurate vs. the 2025 Indoor Survival. Thanks for bringing this up.

@thegoodridesnow

Two very different boards. The only thing they have in common is the fast bases. For most, the Biru will ride shorter and wider and it's pretty much full camber with a stiffer flex. The Mantaray has a very small camber going to early rise and a softer flex. They appeal to two different styles of turning.

Does “0.5 setback” mean that the sidecut, and camber, aren’t centered with the reference stance, and that someone could with no problem at all set their back binding to one hole further towards the middle and ride a exact twin board? Being then centered with the sidecut AND camber? Does anyone actually do this with the mercury? Does it make sense? I ask because I ride Ultras with mini discs, and in order to set my stance width at 51cm Id have to move one binding like this. Thx in advance!
@thegoodridesnow
@thegoodridesnow Күн бұрын
Yes all around except for camber. I beleive that is centered on sidecut but not 100%. So if you have bindings that can slide forward .5" to be centered on sidecut, then it will feel almost like a true twin. I do this a lot with boards like this on groomer days and it feels great.

Thanks. Both are pretty good but I'd give edge hold to the Pentaquark by a little bit just because the edges are damper/resist chatter more. Both are amazing carvers. If you want a really set back, wide more surfy carver go Cafe Racer. If you want a more centered/easy to initiate a turn but still carves super hard too go Pentaquark. Two very different ways to do the same thing.

How would you compare this with the older Jones Mindexpander as a dedicated pow board? I have the ME (158) as my pow board and thinking about replacing it. Its awesome when the pow is fresh, but by late morning when there's a lot of chop and tracked out snow, its just not as much fun. Feels like it doesn't hold the edge great and gets bounced around a lot. You mentioned the Backwoods is a freeride board, but I'm having trouble understanding that term lately. Is it a pow board? all mountain board? My other board is a Dancehaul 152. That's more of my all mountain board that I ride when there's no (or very little) fresh snow. in previous years, I'd ride the ME and then go swap out the board late morning. I'd like to not do that switch. Or maybe if i'm travelling somewhere and there's going to be varying conditions. I don't really want to ride the ME, but maaaybe the Dancehaul is going to be undergunned in the deeper stuff.
@Rbs4876
@Rbs4876 3 күн бұрын
I'll emphasize this is more freeride in the sense that it's not as set-back on board compared to 'pow' boards. This is a soft freeride board in my opinion, kind of a cruiser compared to my stiffer freeride/pow boards. I own this in a 163W and it's wider than my 164 jones hovercraft. Even the regular sizes are wider than typical. Important details...

@joelmiranda1640 It really wouldn't. You will be much happier with the old surf rocker ME vs. this freeride board in pow. You should go to The Good Ride and read this article/watch the vid. thegoodride.com/snowboard-riding-styles-explained/ I put a lot of time into it, and it should help you a lot. You state the size but not your specs so no idea on weather the 152 will work for you and if you sized the 158 right. It won't float like the ME you have but it won't be bad at all except for better/deeper pow days. Then maybe take out the ME. You have a good 2 board quiver, but if you want a one-board quiver, you might like something like the newer Mind Expander, YES PYL Uninc, or Cardiff Powgoda if you want something with a very good float that also rides groomers. There is also a lot of incomplete info here that makes it hard to recommend a board. This would not be more relaxed. The Type Two is much more forgiving and has an easier flex on snow than the Dynamo. If you want a chill ride with good grip go with the Terrain Wrecker. The camber profile is similar to what you have now but it's a more chill, a little more directional ride vs. what you have now but with more grip. So disregard what we say on the set back and treat it now as a park to mtn freestyle twin. thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/capita-indoor-survival-snowboard-review/ If that appeals to you and you have something else for pow or are fine with a mostly camber twin in powder. If you like a more directional ride with more set back float in powder thats more forgiving and stiffer go BSOD.

My wife has ridden step ons for a few years, and from what I can see, it looks like there is actually a fair amount of lag / delay between initiating a turn and the binding reacting. There is a noticeable gap between the parts of the heel connection, and a lot of wobble on the toe connections. She is riding the Step on 2s now. You, and many others have said these feel more responsive, but this seems at odds with what I can see. I’d love these if they were genuinely more responsive but I’m on the fence…
