That switch he showed you is called a power divider switch, it's for you to rotate all 8 rear tires at the same time, "once" your out of your situation from being stuck, return that switch to the off position. Never ever run with that on. Or you will destroy your diffenchill

Just in case you didn’t know, the Volvo sleeper cab trucks use a steel frame including the sleeper. Most other trucks use fiberglass for the structural support of the sleeper. Your better off with the Volvo safety wise.

I know your excitement!! I got my Volvo HDT about 3-4 weeks ago. I’ll be speaking with Alicia to get my DRV underway next week. Because of Suite Travels I became aware of HDT’s and found out that I was spending only a bit more than a Duelly. I’m a single, 59 year old woman and will be on my own, so I can’t wait to run into the both of you once I get my DRV, hook it to the HDT and get on the road!!! I can barely sleep, I’m so excited to get things going. Enjoy!!

When you drop your air suspension , you will lose you suspension action. Since your frame is stiff if any wheel climbs onto a bump it will raise at least one other tire off the ground. Your power divider will lock the power divider between the two axles to make power go to both axles at the same time. However each axle is an open differential. The traction control will use the brakes to slow the spinning wheel to force power to the other wheel on that axle. The one time you want to disconnect the traction control is when it starts fighting itself braking and derating power so much that you run out of power. Running a HDT you might never run into this situation.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that insight. I feel like I learn something new about these trucks every day so I appreciate you sharing that. Safe Travels
@johnjackson9564
@johnjackson9564 4 жыл бұрын
Jonesntravel, if you don’t have traction control you would not want to drop your air ride in poor traction situations due to this problem and you would be stuck. Most power dividers now days operate as an open differential until you lock it. SQHD rear ends from the 60’s/70’s drove the rear axle directly and locked the front axle when needed. You can also get locking axles that lock each individual axle which 6x2 or oilfield off-road utilize. I don’t know about Volvos system but our 2015 KW T660 will disengage the power divider and traction control when you shift to the high side of the transmission. I assume you have an ishift and that be about 6th gear. Happy Trucking. I believe the more you know about your truck the better your decisions will be.

13 quarts in the Ford with 7,500 mile average change. Big truck has about 44 quarts and 30,000 mile life.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
So its about 8 quarts less than the Ford at the same mileage. I like that I only have to do the oil and such once a year in the big truck versus every few months in the dually. :) Safe Travels

@jeffsmith4525 4 жыл бұрын
JonesN2Travel. 44 quarts, that’s 11gallons compared to Fords 13 quarts, or 3 1/4 gallons. Huge difference
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that every 7500 miles in the Ford would require 13 Quarts which is 4 oil changes in 30k miles compared to the big truck. That means the Ford requires 52 quarts every 30k miles where the big truck only requires 44 quarts. That's where I got the 8 quart savings. :)

its a 20 AMP regular extension cord plug. Most RV parks have a 20 amp socket in the panel but if not they also make reducers that will allow you to use one leg of the 50 AMP to power an extension cord :) Looking forward to hearing more about your Volvo. :) Safe Travels

Our truck was listed at the end of the year, 2019, and because of Covid it sat for 4 or so months before we found it. Originally they were asking $57k and when they dropped it $10k I started looking more seriously at it. The final price was $47k but that included new tires, new brake shoes, a new belt tensioner and a new belt. We paid almost $1k for all the testing and that was done out of pocket before we agreed to buy it. I figured the testing was a small price to pay to find out if there were any major red flags. There were none so we bought it. Hope that helps. Safe Travels

I asked them if they wanted it and they didn't so I took the truck to a recycler and had them lift it off with a magnet. :) Thanks for following along. Safe Travels

@@JonesN2Travel Please do a video about what is involved in getting a Semi truck converted to pull a fifth wheel rv. I am seriously looking into going the same route as you guys have done. I already bought a f350 and found out the hard way that it won't pull the size 5'r my wife want to get. I have been a truck driver for 25 years and think I can get a nice semi for alot less than I have put into this old f350.

@@SawltyDawg2009 Would be my pleasure. We wish we had known about HDTs from the beginning too. We would have saved a ton of money. We are getting ready to build our truck bed in the next couple of days so I will be sure to go in depth on the whole process in that truck bed series. Thanks for the video request. Its much more fun doing a video that someone has asked for :) Thanks again Safe Travels

Do you have to get an IFTA sticker for fuel tax, or are you exempt?
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
Exempt. The truck is registered as an RV in South Dakota so not commercial at all. Safe Travels

Used and depending on age, mileage and condition they range anywhere from the low $20k to $100k. We paid $47 for ours including new brakes, new tires and all fluids and filters replaced. Hope that helps. :) Safe Travels

Great video and all the info you are providing for when buying a heavy duty truck. Do you need to get a CDL to drive this truck when towing your RV?
@JonesN2Travel

The truck is registered as a RV in South Dakota so no CDL required but check with your state to see if they have any restrictions. :) Safe Travels

We just purchased a 780 as well. How were you able to drive it off the lot? We had to arrange transport until the title classification is changed.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
There was a 2 week gap between when I paid for the truck and when I picked it up so South Dakota already had the Utah title and that piece was processed. Congrats on your 780. Thanks for following along. Safe Travels.

Is CDL required for “not for hire” use? Thnx.
@JonesN2Travel
@JonesN2Travel 4 жыл бұрын
The truck is registered in South Dakota as an RV so no CDL required. The "Not for Hire" stickers are in no way required and some HDTers don't have them on their rig at all. Some say it helps the authorities to understand that you aren't commercial but I really cant say whether it makes much difference or not. Hope that helps. Safe Travels
