Terror In The Jungle was very good, but Stanley Nelson's Peoples Temple/Jonestown documentary made for PBS had a much larger amount of ex-Temple members (many of whom have since died). You really need to see both.

That large black man with Afro and smiling, with white t shirt and dirty jeans that Jim hugged at the beginning , his name is Anthony Simon . His brother Jerome, , his mother , sister in law and her two babies all died. His other brother Michael survived. His brother Jerome was armed and participated in the murderous rampage at the airport. So sad.

This collection of promotional footage spans over a period of time. From the beginning of the video: 1975, March 1976 (storeroom clip) and 1976 to early 1977 (red pyjamas). But there are definitely more videos of Jim promoting Jonestown besides these clips; when he is showing Kool Aid in the storeroom in March 1976 and the bananas in late 1976 as two examples. He moved there permanently in June 1977, then of course many videos were made on the pavilion etc, when he lived there.

Imagine the nightmare the cult members faced once they were trapped in this hellhole after being misinformed that Jonestown was going to be a Paradise to live in? They had their passports taken away as well as their means of income. In other words, they were at the mercy of a diabolical madman.

remember,Peoples Temple was a 'social service advocacy/provider "Church". Many of these people you are referring too were not simply 'members' or even 'prisoners of Jonestown'. They were clients of People Temple and willingly gave their monies and possessions to the Temple for the totalist , social services that the Temple promised to provided , and did provide, until it couldn't.

I love these home movies and seeing the progress the pioneers made, unreal. The personalities of the people radiate happiness in this early period. Compare this to NBC'S footage where they're all emotionally drained and vacant looking, nobody's character stands out then, they all portray the same existence. So sad, Tim Swinney makes me smile in all these clips, yet a couple years later he is invisible.

I'd love to hear a body language and facial expression expert analyze this video. I'm neither, but looking at their faces with the benefit of hindsight, something really feels ' off' . Of course, now we all know something really WAS ' off' . But it's not hard to imagine this video having been an effective recruiting tool, given the issues in society at that time. The truly sad part is, a lot of those same issues never went away. Survivor Leslie Wagner Wilson is on tape saying she fears that conditions exist today that could lead to another ' Jonestown ' . For that reason , it's important for people to remember this tragedy. So that it never happens again.

This was filmed years before the massacre, while they were still building up Jonestown. If you google jonestown tape archives, you can find hundreds of tapes they recovered from Jonestown that aren't on KZbin, but they are online free to listen to. They recorded just about every speech and meeting they had. The poor quality of some of the tapes make it even more creepy to listen to. It's a rabit hole you might regret going down.

Feel sorry for the kids but so many red flags were missed by the adults. 1. Deciding to move to another country because your church leader asked you. 2. Sending the church all your money. 3. Getting to the country and finding out the “paradise” is 200 miles deep into the jungle. Essentially making it a prison. 4. Surrendering your passports on arrival. 5. Armed guards at the entrance to Jonestown. 6. Mass suicide “dry runs” (white night). 7. Singing the Soviet national anthem. A few realised it but the 95% of the others must have been blind to have missed all those flags.

After the first two it was too late to get out. I've been watching other videos, and some of the people realized as soon as they got there they had gotten into something horrible that they could not get out of.
