Two things I like about Em... One, he works with up and coming talent. Two, he never sounds out of date. The beats, the cadence, the presentation, always current. And because of that, hes had HISTORIC longevity and relevance in game. And three, he makes these new rappers reach for greatness when featured on a song together. Rap essentially reset after Eminem debuted. The game had to start from scratch, cause no one could out-talent Em. Thats why all these new rappers just honestly suck, with the exception of the few who work with Em.

Ok this was a great video so you get some backstories from Melly Mel. Song was about me and a childhood argument with my bf, the love of my life, over a movie and a showcat. An argument resolved in about 2 weeks but it was bad. So here’s what happened: my bf at around age 12-13 comes back from a trip, he comes up to give me a hug and say he’s back, he hears me gushing about Tobey and thinks the worst. He stormed off before I could tell him we had just gone to the movies while he was away. But it didn’t help I had also acquired a cat and named him Tobey… who went on to win a show. Only made things worse. lol. But we were kids. My bf had been a child music prodigy and also we did magic together. So Houdini is what he sang to fans when they wouldn’t leave us alone. He’d sing the chorus and it would scare kids away. Now for the goat reference. Em isn’t that. He may have let kids contribute cus we helped in the arts. The kid however was growing up in a city and there were some of those types of evil problems. Kids were possibly used for some of that stuff. So he was mad at me cuz he thought I loved Tobey who got bit by a spider but he was suffering under a goat. The my city’s Leia was cuz I was Leia and this kid was my obiwan, and he would come up with excuses to get me out of my house cus things weren’t good at home. I’d whisper out my window to him “help me obiwan, you’re my only hope” as a coded way of saying “come up with an excuse to get me out of here.” He has a hard life too so some of those issues were addressed in this song. Except our city went thru some BAD stuff. A kid got m’d in the streets one night and kids saw it. So he later said now the whole city was his Leia and he was gonna use music and magic to help the kids of the city, to share their stories, to protect them, etc. He had hoped before he passed away himself in his 20’s to help alert the world what kids of the city were going thru. I shared some more stories for those who want. And maybe a few new songs are up. I ended up in an even worse sitch now, so kinda glad some old material came out suddenly highlighting some of what we went thru. Just hope the whole world doesn’t think bad of me for being Melly Mel. We were kids. And this kid at times had a lot of anger over what he was going thru too. But I loved him very much and we had grown up together. I miss him a lot. He was so talented. He taught me so much about music. He was also my childhood dance partner, so had a lot of talents. He was also a dj. His goal was to let kids share their stories and get them to as many artists as possible. Cuz kids weren’t making it. Remember the 90’s was the height of a lot of bad stuff out there. Homeless crisis. G4ngs. And we had to grow up in it. I can’t speak to every reference on the album cuz I may not have always been there… like I had to apologize to Tobey whom I don’t even know, but might not know the stories behind everything.
