Yep. I'm trying to consciously create my own EDC at the moment, mostly on a budget, and it has to be pocket carry. Jon's one this time is pretty good. I don't really need a knife (I have more use for scissors), so it would be interesting to see you compete on other combinations it carry. Mine would be 1 house key, 1 car keyfob, cards, cash (inc coins), screwdriver, torch, scissors, notebook, pen and mechanical pencil.

Great video. I didn't like either wallet so that was a draw, gave the Rovyvon light the edge on the massive lumen advantage. The Cadet is my favorite alox knife, though the bantam is certainly not a bad choice. As for keyrings, I have concerns about magnets separating without my noticing if my EDC gets hung on something. The s-biners I have in all sizes and have used every day for years with no problems. Their versatility is unsurpassed. The Rovyvon carabiner is closer to an S-biner so Jamie gets the edge by a frog hair. Great fun! Best wishes to you both!

The combination of the 2 carry choices in this video are quite close to my own. Bellroy All Conditions card pocket (7/8 years old, still going strong) containing, Zebra f301 compact pen, Victorinox Alox Cadet, Olight I3T EOS. Cards and cash carried in the Bellroy too. Used to carry the Bantam but got lured by the 2020 limited editions, I also used to carry the Rovyvon A2 but found that even the momentary presses meant I would find it discharged. Yes the card pocket can be a bit fiddly but the ease of throwing into my front pocket, cycling jersey, sling, etc. for me is a winner. Excellent video and my votes are Wallet - Jon Flashlight - Jamie Knife - Jamie Keys - Jon

Came here from the current challenge. Have to say, I prefer Jon’s wallet over Jamie’s. Jamie saying the word “purse” like it’s a bad word. Tsk! Overall, I prefer Jon’s choices. I like the wallet, the torch, and the knife (which I would not put on a keychain). I like both of the keychains though. I use a carabiner as my keychain. I have a lot of keys (thank you, work!), so the carabiner is the easiest way to carry them. I have an Olight Imini 2 attached to my purse (no room on the keychain-makes it too bulky in the pocket), and own a RovyVon A28U as well.

So in actuality, you both went overboard. Night Ize makes some of the best and most functional pieces of gear. Now as far as the one Jon has with the magnetic function for a key ring isn't something you would want to trust on a long hike, or camping trip, much less in an emergency. You're taking more of a risk of losing everything. For example, while you're hiking and a limb catches it just right it is coming off. Jamie's idea is more practical for said situations. Now, however, to stay on a budget you can buy another key ring with all the functions as a key ring, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, bottle opener, and carabiner with at least a 300lb weight limit in a pack of two from Night Ize. It's very lightweight, plus it's got more functions in one piece than you guys put together and you can buy them either Amazon, Lowe's, or Home Depot both I'm familiar with here in the states. Priced around 10-15 lbs there or 10-15.00 here. Now with a light. I agree that rechargeable is and will always be more practical. But in your bag, you need to be functional anytime and anywhere light that'll take both a battery and recharging. Streamlight has that exact light. It is about 500 LMS, a few ounces, less than 3 inches with a key ring or paracord attached. 20-30 bucks. Knife. Kershaw makes a compact lightweight knife that's not only fully functional but light, and small. It's maybe 20-30.00. Cheaper on other sites I'm sure. Now we have all the tools, keys, lights, and knives under control we're missing a fully functional and practical solution to carrying it all plus what we normally carry. They sell a small compact carrying pouch. It can't only fit in your front or back pocket but also in any small hiking pack or the wife's purse. It does have a zipper "sorry Jamie" that's also waterproof. It has multiple compartments to keep everything secure and separated. I recommend the greenish color. It'll cost next to nothing for that. Plus with the money, you're saving you can add medical supplies like a bandage or button and thread etc. So you'll have less weight, and less tools and or gadgets. Oh, don't forget less than you both spent plus a higher quality. But I'm just an American that was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains lol. Let me know what you guys think!

@laimonasrake83672 жыл бұрын
John's setup is much better thought through, experience shows. The pouch idea is great, but the zipper is an obvious point of failure, and it's just too expensive for what it is 🤷♂️ I'd go with: ¤ Victorinox Swisscard pouch as a wallet, real leather at £13, has clear window for ID and space for 2-3 cards easy. ¤ Nitecore Tiki for a flashlight, which is cheaper and has better functionality, including the "blind the attacker by instinctively holding the on button depressed" function, but also "mini camping light" function using auxiliary LED - up to £20 ¤ Victorinox Swisscard for a FIXED BLADE knife 🤣, there are few different tool options to choose to your liking too - up to £26 ¤ For keyring I use a loop of 2mm dyneema rope on magnet comparable with what John recomends, an idea I have picked up from one of Johns past product reviews btw. Great content nevertheless

Very entertaining video, thank you! 😊 The Alox Bantam is indeed an option over the Alox Cadet. But when it comes to weight and volume, why not take the Rambler? It is comparable in weight to the Bantam, but it is much smaller - and has additional functions: toothpick, tweezers, scissors, a PH screwdriver magnetic (!), and an nail file. On top: it has a bottle opener and a wire stripper as well. Who needs a can opener today?

Brilliant vid lads 👏 Jamie has it with the wallet & knife I reckon. John you easily took the torch but I don't like either key option im afraid 🤣 Great stuff, cheers 🍻 Oh that purse is honkin by the way, if I took that out in the pub I'd rightly get destroyed by my mates 😅

Sorry Jon but Jamie definitely won here. Granted you might get that "security wallet" a little cheaper if you asked your grandmother to part with hers and Jamie did needlessly overspend on the keyring, but aside from the torch where I'd give Jon a slight lead Jamie was overall the better budget selection. The Bantam being smaller doesn't appeal to me when you're well within pocket knife territory regardless and I wonder if its thin cross section is actually less ergonomic when cutting things.

It really is subjective, so all I can say is what I would prefer for me: Wallet - Jon I like zip closing for security to keep all items inside. I have a zipping key wallet right now, so not far from what Jon has here!☺️ Torch (flashlight in American 😉) - Jon I love the 56 hour duration! Plus strobe mode is good for certain situations. Doesn't hurt to have it built in! Knife - Jamie More capability with more tools is what I always prioritize, even if a little thicker in size! Keyring - Jamie I love that it's titanium, so it's really tough, thus way more versatile, being able to hang more weight on it if you had to use it unconventionally. I grew up watching MacGyver on TV back in the 80s. Using any tool unconventionally as a secondary option is like second nature to my mind. 😉

If I were forced to pick one, I'd go with Jon's. I just need that security of zipping pouch to keep small items inside! The 56 hr. flashlight is really great for emergencies!

Big fan of the Olight i1R2 range - I have an EOS which is still USB micro, but that's not a problem because I only need to charge it once every month or so. Will never come accidentally come on in the pocket - even temporarily - and throws out enough light for a keychain torch. Great videos, enjoying the interplay and different approaches - more please!

I had that olight key torch and it broke almost instantly. It doesn’t hold up to being beaten around on a key chain.

My vote goes to Jamie, he bought good EDC and I also prefer the wallet to the small security purse Jon bought, I also prefer Jamie's knife to Jon's as for the torch I preferred again Jamie's choice. So yeah Jamie 100%...way to go Jamie! Jon's security wallet reminds me of my grandmothers purse which as a bit bigger and always had a lot of things in it.

I use those 'pull-apart keyrings'. Where you press a button and it releases. Magnets always make me nervous. You can buy packs of them on amazon.

Jon definitly beats Jamie with the light and keyring but Jamie beats Jon with the knife and wallet in my opinion. Hence its honestly a draw for me.

Jamies wallet choice was a clear winner IMO.

Can’t vote, because I wasn’t impressed with either selection. I carry a RovyVon A1x with a SAK Rambler and one of the things I learned carrying the Rambler is how often it’s helpful to file a rough spot on a fingernail (sorry Jon); you can trim fingernails with the scissors in a pinch, as well as having small Phillips and flathead screwdrivers. The same mini s-binder has a small Fox40 micro whistle, a NiteIze Doohickey (great help removing staples or getting into plastic packaging), all for less than 3 oz. and about $50. I use at least one thing in it every day!

About the wallet, i prefer the amazon one, i wouldn't use the two posh ones. But i personally use a SLIM made in Italy card holder/Wallet. Search for it, you will probably like it :D
