Awesome playthrough. I own GP but haven't played for 2 years so this was a great refresher. I so appreciate the hard work you put into these playthroughs, not least by having the opponents following quite different strategies.

I played over 15 Gaia Project games and I have over 25 Terra Mystica game under my belt and today I discovered 2 rules I played wrong (thanks to Terra Mystica legacy). When you leech power, its not the total of all buildings but only the biggest building and when you build an academy, you choose which one you build and not left to right like all the other buildings. *mind blown* Thanks JGG.

It's a subtle and potentially tricky rule, but wow that's a lot of games to be playing it wrong! Glad to help :)

That's really nice to hear considering the extended playthroughs take 2-3 times as long to make vs the tutorials and generally get only about 1/3rd the views. I invest that time for people like you :)

Thank you, well taught! Just bought the game yesterday and can't wait to play! I noticed something that was overlooked, but didn't matter at the time. @ 44:00, orange placed a mine right next to brown's planet giving them a power. But it didn't matter, since they were at max power anyways. There's also another instance of this @ 53:10, @ 55:40, @ 58:40, 1:01:00, and @ 1:05:40.

Thanks so much for this incredible play through and the tutorial. Not only have you helped me finally get this game to the table after almost 3 years after struggling with the rulebook, but you've helped me discover what an awesome experience it can be. You have a unique gift for communicating the nuances of these complex games and making them seem approachable. You did the same for Feudum, which I still can't believe was possible! Loving your work Jon, thanks again.

In a full four player count, I can imagine space becoming extremely tight very fast and players being willing to do very unfavorable gaiaforming actions just to not get locked out of the area. Federations and tech really do seem to be solid pointmakers from what I saw there. As always excellent playthrough, this was a blast to watch like usual.

It's worth noting that at higher player counts the overall map gets bigger, I should have mentioned that in the video. It can still certainly get crowded.

I love this game. It seems like every time I play it somebody picks the Taklons, but I have never played them myself (I have played the other side). Their ease of charging just looks so fun. I've not seen the Geodens in a game, so it was fun watching that - I can see how that 3 knowledge per new planet type could seduce you into less than optimal play. At 1:02:00 you should have added an extra power to area I because of your Planetary Institute.
@GettingGames5 жыл бұрын
I picked the Taklons because they had a very easy to understand but also powerful ability that didn't break any of the game's basic rules. I was super close to using the white space dogs instead but the fact that when they sacrifice power they don't lose it felt like too much of a rules difference to work well in this teaching video. Thanks for pointing out that error, I've added a note to the Klingon subtitles.

@GettingGames5 жыл бұрын
Considering it was me saying two different takes on top of each other instead of a perfect echo I decided that was too confusing. I must have accidentally changed the audio levels for the whole video without realizing this took all the bad takes up from 0db back to something that could be heard.

@johanlof58935 жыл бұрын
Think the same thing occurs at 44:44... (when building a mine at the orange planet). Also at 53:18 when upgrading to the academy the Geoden player missed out on the opportunity to charge power tokens... Again at 58:45 when building the mine on the gaiaformed planet next to the orange dudes research lab(s). And again at 1:01:05 when building that mine at the orange planet in the neighbourhood of the orange mine above.

@GettingGames5 жыл бұрын
I'll look into all these that you point out, but it is true that it's always optional. I did try to point out the option whenever it happened but it seems as the recording process (about 9 hours) went on I started missing more of these opportunities.

@@GettingGames o wow thats alot of time and recording not used , the work you put in makes for some of the most understandable and pleasing videos to watch, when i watch your playthrough i rly get the sence of the gameplay, mutch more then others where they just use a overhead camera, so the hard work you put in is rly showing, keep it up, if you could or are able can you do a circadians first light also, thx

@warever372 жыл бұрын
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think you may have made a rule error at 51:30 because even though they have the option to charge 4 Power then take +1 Power token, or vice versa, they have to finish the actions from this source before taking income from another source. (Page 10 of the rule book).

Good catch! I've added a correction to the video, thanks :)

That action is detailed as a modified version of the build action where one terraform is paid for already by the action, so it all happens in one turn instead of two.

44:45 : so you don't form town/federation in the same turn as you build? It has to be a new turn unlike in TM?

Forming a federation is indeed an action so you have to spend your whole turn doing it.
@carmelthomson99173 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon..thoroughly enjoyed this video...but I'm a little confused..I thought that once you had made a federation, that was it....you cant do anymore with it, ie upgrade those buildings???
@GettingGames3 жыл бұрын
You can't make a second federation with tokens within a previous one, but you can still expand the federation without starting a new one.
@Ogrecrusher5 жыл бұрын
Around 44.20 when you do the double terraform power action you say it has to go onto an orange or white planet. In Terra Mystica you're allowed to split that action over 2 spaces but I guess that's not allowed here as the only cardboard planets are the green ones?
@GettingGames5 жыл бұрын
Correct, all terraforming in Gaia Project must be specific to a single location and it must be a full terraform since this game has no partial tokens.
@JJ_TheGreat5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon, Do you plan what you are going to do in these videos ahead of time? I am just wondering because around almost 20:00 in, you said that there is no way for your opponent (Geodens) to do what they wanted to, they were just short of being able to do it.
@GettingGames5 жыл бұрын
I generally plan 1-3 turns out for all players depending on the current situation. In that instance I was trying hard to let that player do a cool move but couldn't find a way to make it happen with with a couple turns of setup.

I got this game last week and have played 2 - 2 player games and 2 - 1 player games against the automa. The first 2 player game took us around 4 hours, the second around 2,5. Against the automa i went twice 5+ hours. How are you making these decisions so fast!!?
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
It only looks like I made quick decisions because I edited out all the thinking. This playthrough took 9 hours of raw video recording to complete, not to mention many more hours of editing.
