hulaguitar There is a chance that the photo of Gram was taken in his room instead of the lobby and that is why Jordan couldn’t find it.

Bummer! I guess they get alot of people wanting to record in their hotel considering the history.

My initial reaction to the footage of inside Marmont was, "how did he get away with that" because just on their reputation alone and their overboard discretion to the privacy of their guest gave me a sense that they would be displaying an "attitude" that you would not be happy with.

The canyon at the time must have been an amazing place to be. Nobody was trying to be cool or project an image, just a bunch of highly talented and creative kids making music together and living their lives with no idea that they were making history or would become legendary.

You mean what they just tried to do with YT influencers in 2015 when the big wigs decided influencers were the new gig for the public. Hollywood was always a place to brag to your friends that you made it even if you had roommates or were kinda struggling.

The whole classic rock n roll scene is on my bucket list. Laurel Canyon, Big Sur, Sunset Strip.. so much history. Just to walk where they walked, see things that they saw .... would possibly give the perspective they had. But, here we are in the times of hurry hurry get it done....it's not the same & I'm not sure people create music like that anymore, the music where your friends or just other musicians came by & everyone played & it might become a song or it might not. Now it's the days of auto tune & computer generated. I was in love with the whole scene, Morrison, Parsons, Nash, Ronstadt, Mitchell, Slick, Mama Cass....I can thank my aunt for turning me on to a lot of things from those times & taking me along for the "ride" on occasion even though I was a little young.

Joni Mitchell's house has so much sentimental value and see her house and her still being the owner brings back so many health feelings. Being in that era was amazing and Joni Mitchell's music was part of a time where everyone was excepted. This tour of Laurel Canyon still has the same influence of good will for all. A charming place to surrender yourself to.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the doggie, small tidbits about your personal life and all, but this type of knowledge and your appreciation of history and back lot goings on, are what I ENJOY MOST !!! When I went to California last year, first stop in LA was her Lauren Canyon house! The gate was open so I could see inside better. And then I went back in Feb this year and they were doing some sort of construction work inside... Lovely house, lovely neighborhood, it just blows my mind all the magic that went on there.

Robin Luck.. traffic in Laurel Canyon is horrible in the mornings and evenings. That’s why I changed my eye doctor from Beverly Hills to closer to the Valley area. But the history is beautiful in the canyons on how they got inspired with their music.

Love seeing the snippet of Joni's house - appreciate your post. I've been a huge fan of her's since 1966 and have all her recordings. Have seen Joni each time she came to Toronto, Ont. Canada (where I still live). First saw her in concert at the Mariposa Folk Festival, summer of '68 here in T.O. Sending Joni's healing thoughts as I play "Ladies of the Canyon". Happy 75th!

I love Joni and her music..I also love CSN&Y, I listen to their music back in the day when I was a teenager...And I still listen to their music, it never gets old to me..Ladies of The Canyon, is one of my favorite Joni Mitchell albums. I love most of all the songs on that album, one being the Ladies of the Canyon..Joni's description of all the ladies living there made the song so interesting to me..In fact I would picture all the ladies Joni wrote about in that song..Joni had a way of telling her story through her songs, which is why I love her song writing..Our House, by Graham Nash is another song I always loved..I would also have a picture in my minds eye what it was like that Graham was singing about. I didn't know at first he was writing that song with Joni in mind..I learned later on the song was about him and Joni, and the love they had for each other..It made his song even more lovely after I learned about the meaning behind it..Thanks for posting this video, I know I wouldn't be up that way to Calif, or to Laurel Canyon..But seeing Joni's home, and it's surroundings, made me feel I could be there! One line in the song from "Our House" that always sticks with me is: 'I'll light the fire while you place the flowers that bought today'...Now I know and saw where Joni bought those flowers from that little store on the corner... And she placed the flowers in the vase, such a cozy room!

I'm surprised that with such a lengthy comment about "Ladies of the Canyon" you didn't notice that Jordan cited the title of the album and song incorrectly (3:11) in this video. I left a comment for him. Being I die-hard fan of Joni since day one, I notice those little things.

Another important figure from this scene I admire so much, and hope to meet in the afterlife 🙂 is Cass Elliot. I wonder what Joni would have written about her, had she done a longer version of the song Ladies of the Canyon! Cass was so instrumental in important happenings there. She was the LC Ambassador, Den Mother, matchmaker/Yenta, and hostess extraordinaire. The photos taken in her backyard are among my favorites. That shot of Eric Clapton watching in awe at Joni playing guitar is just…everything! Crosby’s smug “Yeah, she’s MY discovery” look on his face is hilarious.

I have read a fair amount about Laurel Canyon's history, but I have never been there. This excellent video tour gave kind of a more physical dimension to the stories about Joni Mitchell, Zappa, Jim Morrison, the Hyatt House, Ciro's, etc. Not quite the same as going there, but the next best thing, and a whole lot cheaper. Very well done!

Same for me, David…I’m just a bit obsessed with the whole scene and history but haven’t seen it in person, YET. Thank you, Jordan, for all your tours, but this one especially! So cool that you are enough of a Joni fan to put that focus on “Our House”! And great to see the store on the inside. And Jim’s house…and Frank’s house… Damn, I need to get my butt out there! Trying to figure out a polite and unobtrusive way to meet Joni. She’s one of 2 artists I really need to meet before I kick it!

David Carpenter, Have you read “Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon”? It’s chock full of conspiracy theories*, and the writing is pretty sensationalist, BUT there is plenty of factual, verifiable info about the history (going back to the early 1900’s), the people, the homes…worth a read if you are voraciously curious about the history. *theorizing that the government created the hippie movement to delegitimize the anti-war effort, performed LSD experiments on many residents, and that a majority of the musicians were somehow agents of our military intelligence groups. It is true that a surprising number of them were children of military and specifically intelligence operatives. And then there’s that inconvenient fact that Jim Morrison’s father basically started the Vietnam war…

Born and raised here in Southern California (1965). Lived here all my life, and have not been to many of the places you've shown in this 15 minute video. Thanks fo the inspiration. Although, I did cringe just a bit when you were filming right outside Ms. Mitchell's home for internet broadcasting purposes. Hopefully, other people will show a little more personal respect for the occupants who actually live there (doubt it...😣). Other than that, very cool video. thanks for posting. 👍😀

Great job! I love Joni, and every performer from the canyon from the day. That’s my generation of music. As an artist I have always admired Joni’s artwork. Nice to see the history. Thanks! Wasn’t The House Of Blues where Phil Spector picked up Ms Clarkson on that fatal night?
