After a lifetime of listening to this song I see how brilliantly it captures the metamorphosis of thought and spirit that accompanies the years, but I am mystified by how she knew all this at such a young age. I have concluded that Joni is a special being -- like Newton or Mozart or Leonardo.

Yes, I further believe she is deeply intuitive and so in tune with the rhythms of nature. I know when “Clouds” was first released I played it so often it would play in my head without the stylus touching the vinyl. I would guess I sure wasn’t the only one who found this masterpiece album to be the friend you turn to when you need a soul hug.

Early Joni was by far the best. Her voice was stronger and prettier and the music had a magical quality to it. Blue would be the end of her peak. After that it was one relationship after another we had to endure. Then the music became a little too trendy.

Isn't it remarkable how music genres develop? And that there are artists within these genres who develop a distinct voice? And all the more remarkable that there are those like Joni who can simultaneously transcend that genre with their brilliance.
