its amazing how techniques have changed in the last 25 years. Bat-lifts are a lot higher, less focus on footwork, more on base and head position and working off the mindset of If not 6, then 4, then 3 then 2, then 1 rather than the other way around. Wonder how the modern batsman would have got on against Warne, McGrath, Akram, Younis, Donald, Walsh, Ambrose, Murali etc.

Probably as well as batsmen in the past. I don’t think they’d dominate but they also won’t fail miserably either. I hate when people say that smith or root would average 10 in the 90s.

To be fair, Nasser Hussain wasn't exactly the Viv Richards of his day(ignore the fact that he is 55 years old)..His strike rate in ODIs is 67 with just 1 hundred which is slow in any era (Gavaskar had 62). We can speculate about how modern batsman would do in the past, but also can speculate how someone like Viv Richards would do in a much more batting friendly era today..Hell, prime Lara would have gone crazy in the IPL, he was so entertaining in tests..

I remember leaving a ball like a proper international test player at my local ground and everyone went like woah , something you can't achieve with sixes. Nasser's shadow leave reminded me of that

@@ashleyvogt3563Nasser was a good player that didn’t fulfil his potential. His 207 in the 1997 against Australia had 38 boundaries which is like a 75 percent boundary percentage. If England weren’t so bad in the 90 s and early 2000s and there wasn’t that much pressure he would have easily averaged 45. He was a great captain in an era where England was always getting flogged by Australia. There is a lot more to Nasser than just pure stats when judging his batting. He is one of the best cricket brains in the world, I’ve heard a lot of cricket experts in my life and Nasser Hussain remains among the top. In the modern era of cricket pundits and commentators Shane Warne and Nasser Hussain were one of the best going around.

@arvindhmani06 England were on a downslope all throughout the 90s. They were truly a sorry side. One English politician announced once that for future immigrants to get citizenship they would have to support the English cricket team and the idea was laughed at because even English people didn't support their team they were that bad. The change came after the 2005 ashes and since then they've been decent.

Lol🤣🤣🤣, I can relate , per my experience you need proper technique, bat swing, muscle to hit sixes, and if you have not hit in your teen age it's difficult to get it at once. Players who have been playing along the ground even in international level won't be able to hit, kaif, mongia, laxman, Salim javed, amla are examples
@SARYM911
@SARYM911 Жыл бұрын
Agree but Amla did transform himself from a sedate classical test batsman to the premier ODi batsman..He was no devilliers but comfortably leads this group in terms of sixes hit in ODIs (53)

Bairstow looks quite lean in this video. Samit Patel was dropped by England for not sticking to a weight loss program if I recall correctly, whilst Bairstow seems to have been given a free pass. Who am I to judge but it looks to be symptomatic of the allegations levelled at his home county,

Nasser was never that great at hitting sixes even a quarter of a century ago. But he was a damn fine player. And although he must be 55 now, he still looks every bit as trim as he was in his pomp.
